On the fence of buying this camera but feel its been out for 2 yrs w little price reductions. Anyone know if there's any talk of them coming out w a new version?

Just wondering how long I should wait.
Thanks.

Actually the price has reduced dramatically here in Australia since first coming out. Mine cost almost $AUS4,000 when new and now it can be bought for $AUS2,800 - a pretty hefty drop & still a great camera.

We have only seen a price Drop in the USA from $2700.00 US Dollars to maybe $2400.00. Keep thinking there going to drop the price soon.

CametaCamera (Authorized Dealer) puts 5DII's up for auction in batches and they run around a few hundred less than B&H.

You can return it if you decide you don't want it, but it's Store Credit only. You can use the credit on another Cameta auction.

I bought a 7D this way from Cameta for few hundred less than B&H and returned it for a 5DII with no problem at all. But they had no auctions for 5DII and I was too impatient and paid the same price B&H and Adorama sells it for. They were actually great to deal with.

Check ebay completed listings to verify my claim.

There are a million threads on the eventual successor to the 5DII. Here's my usual two cents worth.

In the U.S., the price has dropped a little. Some sellers are including a couple of CF cards or something with it. Aside from that, I get the impression that the 5DII is a phenomenal success in the still--and the pro video--industry and still a hot seller. I think it will be at least another year before there is a successor, and then it will take months to get your hands on one!

If you want to get a camera, get it, quit waiting. After all, when a "5DIII" comes out, do you want to wait around for the 5DIV? The 5DII image quality is amazing--I think the successor will concentrate on other build, video, and handling tweaks.

I have 5D MKII- great camera, really happy with it. IQ is outstanding!

If they are going to build MKIII better (really top notch built quality) and will give better AF (I am not at all complaining with this one) - I am going to switch. But....it is not because there is something wrong with MKII - I am happy with everything about this camera.

Maybe the built quality.....I would want it to be slightly better...like the CF door for example...

I 'd say wait till Sep , you may see the 5D3 coming , remember there will be the biggest photo event Photokina show in this OCt.

And I think the 5D3 is coming because the 5D2 price is dropping so fast.

see?

this is why I am saying the mark3 is coming , all my dealers here in Osak say so, too.

and I am sure they know something I dont know or nobody here know about Canon releasement schedule.

but there is still a bit of possibility the next big announcement will be the 1DS4.

but IMO, the recent dramatic 5D2 price drop says other wise.

I can't wait to get the mark3 if it is a good camera, with decent metering system, I finally manage to go only one brand.

Just please not put the 7D AF or the 1D4 AF and increase its price.

because in the US , you guys have the huge cash back thing that most of parts of the world do not have, you guys do not get the extra price drop yet.

but I am sure you will soon get that too.

any way , last time I went back to San Diego in this May , the 5D2 price at best buy Elcajon was not so bad, 2450USD and I think you can get a bit lower than that online or if you ask the shop.

so, how much was the actual price there? 2K?

you wont get a better built 5D3 since the 5Dseries is the low end fullframe.

and if you go Nikon , you get even worse here , the D700 build is?
its CF door always suddenly opens when shooting it with 70-200VR2 attached.

and my D700 pop-up flash broke 2 times when I was shooting some press conference and event , and Nikon charges for everything.

so, I am glad my 5D2 has no silly pop-up flash, which I never ever use.

I always carry the 580EX2 or 430EX2.

Dont believe Nikon fans always stating like D700 superior build or better sealing , they dont know what they are talking about there is no free luch , the D700 is just a simplified version cheap D3 without some pro level build and sealings just like the 5D2 to the 1DS..

I have the same dilema, buy in September as planned or wait it out? Eventually came to conclusion that:

1. Any new model will be out of my price range (in the UK I can get the Mk 2 for GBP £1,700. I'm sure the M3 will be more around the £2,500 to 3,000 GBP mark. This would then take it out of my price range and I would have to wait a further year or two for it to drop in price.

2. Does the existing model do the job I want it to? Yes, the reason I want a full-frame as this would be a step-up in my progression and give better IQ than a crop sensor. I hope to start exhibiting work in the future and want the larger files sizes (anyway my Fuji S5pro already produces 25Mb RAW files so no change there for me).

It's better to by the camera for your needs and not just to have the latest. I'm sure there are a lot of 5d M1 users out there still happy with what they get with that camera and feel no need to jump on the M2 band wagon.

P.S I've been waiting 2 years for Fuji to replace the S5 pro, bored waiting for them and jumping ship to Canon.

I KNOW CANON WILL RELEASE 5D SOME MARK N ONE DAY

like I said to the OP , as you have your cam now , just wait till Oct and see if the 5D3 announced or 1DS4 announced.

IMO, (it is only my opinion and some of dealers here saying) the 1DS line will be discountinued and 1Dmark5 will be a full frame mix of current 1DS3 and 1D4 line.

This is why , the new fullframe suspected to be announced in Spe will be the 5D series body.

and any manufacturer will very closely guard the release date. You could wait decades for perfection and miss a lot of shots with a fine camera while you wait.
