Get out those 717's and take some gorgeous, sharp, pictures...beef up the saturation (if necessary) and post them here. We need to see some real stunners! My 717 (doesn't have a name yet, does it?) should be here on Friday. I'm hoping to post some ammunition as soon as possible.
Isabel

P.S. More than one person buys a camera based on seeing gorgeous pictures from that model! It was stunning 707 pictures that turned me on to the 717!

There has been many "WOW" pictures posted.

What we need is a more rational forum on the merits and shortcomings, and how to work around them. Not 130+ replies to one accusation of the 717 being a disaster. For those few people who don't know how to use the camera and are unwilling to learn, or unwilling to return a defective unit, I say let them go buy something else. I did that with the DiMage 7i, and I am now the owner of a 717.

I have a few more good ones of Seattle at night, but pbase seems to have misplaced them....

Stunning pics, can't wait for my 717 to arrive.

I'd run right out and buy one if mine weren't supposed to come tomorrow! Thank you for lifting my spirits.

Check my pbase gallary at

I have a total of three mini gallaries up and I'm really happy with my 717!

BTW: This is the first camera I've ever owned and know nothing about
Photography other than what the people on the STF have shown me!

THANK YOU!!!!

Eric,

Those are nice, but that first one has a very black background. I'm disappointed that the 717 can't capture the details in the dark areas. The last one if very pretty, but the camera obviously undersaturates the greens. ;-)

Jim,

In regards to the black background, thats what I was aiming for. The camera handled it perfectly. I'm so sure I like the picture, but the camera did exactly what I asked. I was using a pure black backdrop.

As for the greens, I agree they are a little under saturated but I suppose thats in response to all the complainers about the 707 over saturating them and the reds. The greens in the waterfall pics has been bumped up saturation wise, but not in the rose.

Really, excellent shots. You're proving them wrong!

Eric,

I think you missed the "smiley face" at the end of Shutter's post. (big grin!)

Beautiful pics.

What's worse is that the 717 was totally unable to repair the brown spots on the rose leaves. What was Sony thinking? I'm sure the Dimage would have fixed those leaves right up!

Hehehehe....darn internet. Hard to discern sarcasm, kidding, and seriousness..... =)

Oh well, at least this way any of the Anti-717 people who read your post and thought you were serious too will have serious explanations.

Thanks again Jim.

P.S. I did not mean to say that my photos are the "real stunners" - I just thought that they are a good representation of the fact that the camera works well even for a total newbie like myself...

Hello Isabel,

Memorable 717 image posts are timely. Two from the 717, a blue heron, the second the underbelly of a sea star,

I would appreciate your response, and others to my suggestions over in a thread" titled" Benefits of Samples and galleries". Another effort to offer balance to a tone of "disaster" elsewhere in the forum.

Excerpt:

I propose we routinely add image samples and gallery links to a post, especially when faulting a camera for disappointing results.

The first line of inquiry, it seems to me, is to determine whether fault originates from human error, or in the camera itself. A set of sample pictures tells a thousand words.

Either we have helped identify a genuine camera concern , or we avail ourselves to help from the forum in overcoming self imposed limitations we have attributed to the camera. Either way as I see it, its a win / win situation.

This would help avoid a pattern of upheaval in posts that contain neither samples nor links to images of any kind. One example I recall is an individuals lopsided critique of the 505v. Through a series of request to posts images, it was revealed that the poster did not actually own the 505v, or any digital camera, other than those looked in a store.
