Hi

If I upgrade to LR3 am I going to need to upgrade to PS5 as well? I seem to remember when I upgraded to LR2 I had to upgrade PS because the later versions of ACR weren't supported in the earlier PS version. Is this still the case or have they removed this restriction?

Thanks.

You don't need the same version of PS, and I don't think you ever have needed it. I use LR3 with CS3. When you edit an image from LR in an older version of Photoshop, it warns you that the Photoshop ACR version is older than the LR internal version, and gives you the option of rendering the image in LR before sending it to Photoshop. (But you can still choose to render Photoshop ACR, which might not work if you've made changes in LR not compatible with an older version of ACR with an older Photoshop).

^^^ What he said. If you are rendering 16-bit TIFF or JPEG out of LR for editing in PS then it doesn't matter at all what editing program you use. If you want to be able to round-trip with LR & PS, open the RAW in PS and see all of your LR adjustments, etc. then CS5 is the only way to get that, unless you set LR to use "2003 Process" (in which case you may as well use LR2). Upgrade PS at your convenience, or -- if Adobe holds to the usual pattern -- you ought to be able to upgrade CS3 to CS6 when it comes out in a couple of years.
