60D announcement on Wednesday.

I did say "largely". Even with features such as AF systems though, sooner or later the technology filters down to lesser models as production costs reduce and once development costs have been recouped. You will (probably) never find features such as a metal body, twin processors, 100% viewfinder etc on a 550D successor no matter how long you wait.

It's quite funny that the big announcement is just about a few printers. We really should all learn to ignore these rumours by now!

That would be very sad, but canon is not above pulling stupid trick like this. Thanks for the reminder. I'll curb my enthusiasm this upcoming Wednesday

The announcement was yesterday. It was a bunch of new printers.
 
don't look like it. But the panny LX5 was announced today in Sweden. Maybe something lost in the translation?

I saw the 7d body at buy.com this morning for $1428.00. That is a great price and should push a few towards that camera if deciding.

It is a great price only for those that really need the few extra features of the 7D for birds, sports, etc. For the potential 60D buyers, $1,428 is still very high compared to about $930 for the 50D (I bought mine for about $800 new with bing cashback just 2-3 months ago).

Actually $1,428 is around the same price as any of the xxD when they just came out. If I recall, my 30D was $1,400, and my 10D was $1,500.

Canon's DSLR announcements have always been in August for a body coming out in the fall, so I'm not surprised there wasn't an announcement. I wouldn't rule it out completely just yet.

Yeah, but you are comparing the price of an xxD camera when announced to the 7D today. The xxD bodies quickly stailize around $1,200 for some time, and then fall to below $1,000. So you should compare the 7D @ $1,400 to a 60D a few months after its release unless you want to be the first one to complain about too many mp on this forum. :)

I passed on the 7D when I had the opportunity to get it for about the same price (Cameta+bing), and bought the 50D for $800. I would have bought the 60D if it there were one but no sooner than 3-4 months after its release, for much less than $1,430, I hope.
