I just go read the F300EXR ( and also that of the E800EXR ) product page both english and native Japan. I must say I wonder if Fujifilm is yet falling even more behind in the technology path and also that of the camera.

From what I can tell, the only thing that got advanced is the Phase detection on the sensor. a new lens ( that is more cater to be compact and mega zoom than anything really performing, and Z800 re-use the same old lens that's just not wide enough for social event it intended for ), some nice ergonomic redesign.

But truly, No RAW , and still the same old software ( really not that up to date ) and mostly the camera / menu / etc still pretty dated and simply not up to the norm these days.

I used to use a couple of nice Fujifilm DC, and wanting to like the new one ( actually I am in the market for a compact carry around ), but Fujifilm simply not giving the drive needed I must say. Might be for real, Fujifilm should indeed join the m4/3 with their own ( and provide some decent Fujinon lens also )

If Fuji really found a way to do the impossible - TTL phase-detection AF without beam-splitters or mirrors - then they just introduced the most innovative technological advancement in the camera business since Minolta introduced sensor-shift IS over six years ago.

I'm still looking for the catch...

They just used the 12mp 1/2" sensor and unless a miracle has happened in the engineering dept that means hmm IQ.

Just for one moment imagine an LX-3 type camera with a really fast lens, a hot shoe loads of manual controls and great design. Raw and customisation all over the show nice build and a better battery life throw in a "LARGE" EXR sensor and away you go.

It would have Fuji fans dribbling all over themselves with excitement and other enthusiasts too. What do we have yet another superzoom compact with a few more junky modes thrown in..same old mono sound video which probably won't be that good either. And they are going to ask £300 odd for it!

Cmon somebody wake me up a bit here. Sure I'd take a look for a goof about camera for half that maybe..but for this price it's pretty ridiculous and I can't see this being a huge seller. It'll end up on the bargain bin blow out sale.

Meantime F200 and F70 s/h or refurb prices will fly through the roof as folks desperately try to get hold of a decent EXR Fuji.

Not sure who is pulling the shots at Fuji but I'm starting to wonder if they've really got people in charge who know a little bit about photography. I doubt it right now.

they are not falling behind...they are going backwards.

Time will tell how well the long lens performs. I am sure there will be much debate.

No RAW? gee wiz Fujifilm.

By the time I was ready/had to upgrade my S9100 Fujifilm has the HS10 as their "flagship" camera. I was going to wait till this announcement to see if Fujifilm would deliver a serious camera. The S9100 showed signs it was failing so I made my choice and upgraded to another brand. Had I waited I would be spitting mad right now!

Fujifilm if you are reading .... its time to fess up and tell your loyal clients what your plan is.

What is your plan?

Fujifilm has abandoned all serious photographers and gone after the bottom of the barrel. A once proud professional grade camera producer has sunk to the level of producing cameras that just have good specs that are meaningless in the real world.

Fujifilm should be ashamed of themselves.

I've bought Fujifilm cameras since the GS690W was around. I, like you, will find another brand to follow. Fujifilm is simply not interested anymore in quality images.

It means half-a-stop noisier image than 1/1.7" sensor. Not a difference to get a excited about.

That would be lovely, but Fuji isn't likely to release one, so I stopped waiting and bought an Oly C5060 ...and then a Ricoh GX8 ...and then a Ricoh GX200. I'm not going to wait for Fuji the next time I buy an "LX-3 type" camera.

You missed the really interesting part - TTL (!) phase-detection AF. If true, this could make DSLR's truly obsolete (once the technology is adapted for large-sensor camera).

TTL phase-detection AF without mirror and AF was considered by many as impossible, but Fuji thought otherwise:

I just hope that this schematic doesn't represent the actual gaps between photosites, because this sensor would be very inefficient. Any way, this is very exciting technology that has the potential to revolutionize the camera business like nothing else in recent times. If it works as advertised, it's going to be the last nail in the DSLR coffin.

Fujifilim continues to lose the serious photography enthusiast customer.

Despite the F200EXR's slightly better IQ, the real buzz has been the lens on the F70. They made a mistake by adding 2mp to that sensor and now they are perpetuating the mistake by basing their future on it (using 300 in the name says this is one line now.)

So ... they have decent IQ at 800 and 1600, but they had better with the F200 and the F70.

They have mediocre video, same as the F80. The audio is sure to be mediocre as well (heavily muffled bass at rock concerts.) Also a rotten codec.

They have a longer lens than ever, which we all know will make for serious blur at full wide angle ...

All in all, it;s an F80 with a big lens.

Oh yeah ... and a phase detect AF system without a beam splitter ... that'll be interesting for sure ...

What puzzles me, Kim, is what the difference is between Cat and Dog mode. Does it up the ISO to allow for tail wag?

I'd say the 12mp 1/2" sensor is more than half a stop worse at high ISO v the 10mp 1/2" sensor.

You're right but they could have at least stuck with the same larger F200 sensor..sigh.

Are you having a laugh with me?

I'm going to stop using a DSLR with fast primes or wireless flash or even being able to mount a proper flashgun and get real DOF control and replace it with a Fuji F300exr?

This is a joke right?

People don't just use a DSLR for phase detect AF they use them for a variety of reasons..can change the lens, flash (yes real flashguns) system flexibility etc etc.

I wonder what happened to Fuji's plant - username: 'EXR.' They could really use him now.

You should wait for the samples before judging it. There are 3 samples provided on Fujifilm.com at full resolution (eternal mistake), and they do seem as bad as F80exr at 12MP (edges are really compromised). Yet, there seems to be no purple fringing issue, so We have to wait for EXR mode samples. The lens seems very good, and I noticed the colour rendition is warmer than usual with Fuji, maybe a WB problem with the samples provided, but it's not a bad thing to begin with.

I welcome this change in AF technology! Hopefully mirrorless systems will also add it in the future if they don't speed up the contrast detect AF.

Panasonic claims cca0.3sec AF times with their shiny new LX5, so i guess it is not that far off in best light situations.

Oh and I like the zoom. X15 zoom on a compact that is not the smallest sensor + this new AF advancement? Make it a pretty good new and unique compact in my book.:-)

No RAW? I don't think 0.1% of people buying this would use it. And if it had it it would make the camera act slooooow, and people would complain again.

I think you're wrong on that RAW would help sales and be appealing to many users. Just put a small buffer in there are that solves the problem of waiting.
