Looks like spammers are scraping dpreview for addresses. I just received a spam from "fineartamerica.com" to the unique address used for my dpreview account.

The dpreview FAQ says that our email addresses are protected...??

I got an email from "fineartamerica.com" as well, didn't know where it came from, I just deleted like the rest of the spam I receive daily and moved on. I think life is too short to worry about such trivial things.

Hopefully you get an answer to your statement/question. Have you tried contacting DPR directly?

I don't know whether it is trivial. For many years I left my Dpreview email address available to other forum members. No spam until recently - now multiple spam mails from the above company.

As a result I have now:
1. changed the email address and discarded the old one
2. hidden my email from other members.

Perhaps the new "private messaging" facility makes this less of a problem. However in the past it was sometimes awkward when email addresses were hidden, and there was no way to communicate other than via a forum post, which of course might be missed.

Regards,
Peter

Yes, from an automated bot. There is no protection from a real human clicking each one of your e-mail link.

To be completely safe, we have implemented the Private Messaging system. You can keep your e-mail private, it is not shown anywhere on the site unless someone posted it in plain text.

by doing so you only confirmed to the spammer that your address is working and actively being read by a human. so they sell your address to other spammers as a confirmed "hot" email address.

Hmmm.. could be. We'll see.

Well, I'll see your Cher, and your Streisand... and I'll raise you an Alice Babs!

These bots are getting so sophisticated these days it is shocking .

On forums I run , they can beat all the "Human" tests (alphanumeric codes in a rough picture) , they select avatars and even can respond to forum members (in a fashion) .
