so 7D AF, perfect? no, still not quite entirely rightThe 5D2 has less usable DR at low ISO than the sensor provides and it doesn't pull shadows as well as some but it's hardly a major low ISO noise issue. It actually has less random noise at low ISO per frame than just about anything other than one or two of the top end nikons and more or less ties the 1Ds3. In the shadows an ugly burlap can appear if you shoot demanding shots must faster than with certain, but not all, other DSLRs. You have to be more carefully in how you toss around deep shadows than with say a 40D or 1Ds3. In many shots it doesn't matter at all though, not a little even. In some it does in the sense that it would've been nice to not have it there but other cameras might already have too much random noise to get you there anyway. In some shots it would do out and out worse with the dark shades though. But that said, overall it's still right at the very top of best sensors in any camera. One of the Nikons is better at high iso and one or two or three have better low ISO DR but most have much lower resolution.I'm currently the owner of a Nikon D90 with a couple of years experience of DSLR's. I'm now in the fortunate position of my partner having access to Canon equipment as a staff member at considerable discounts.
My problem is that whichever Canon DSLR I research ( 7D, 5D Mk2) seems to have major issues eitehr with AF in the case of D7 or low ISO noise on 5D Mk 2. I'm currently thinking of waiting for 60D or Mk 3 5D in the hope these issues will be resolved.
Am I wrong to think these are serious issues? I assume there must be many happy users of these camera's but those with the problems are shouting loudest.

Sure we wish it had no burlap pattern noise and hopefully canon pays attention but otoh i'm sure not getting rid of mine and it's my go to camera. The problem is both far more real than than the apologists and fanboys who laugh at it would have you believe and yet FAR, FARRRR less of an issue than the number of threads and dramatic talk makes it appear at first glance. It's not something to send you running to the hills by any means!
Whatever the 7D AF problems and issues are it still has considerably less AF trouble than the older 20D,30D,40D,50D. If you think you'd be fine with teh AF in those you'd be mroe than fine with the 7D AF.
BUT
better than the D90 AF, most likely, almost surely even
definitely better than Canon 50D or older AF
i haven't tested it as much on sports yet so i can't be too specific though
as to whether it is merely only a little better than 50D AF or world's better
5D2 has low iso burlap issues, yeah, and it is the one single thing bad with the sensor system, if it had 40D/1Ds3 standards of calibration for the lows and 7D for the high isos it would really be blow everything but the d3s at high iso out of the water every which way (and there it would only lose at high iso, maybe above ISO3200). As is it IS a real issue and not some fake thing because people take silly photos at insane exposures but that said it may be one which you may find to be pretty minor and the good far outweighs the bad for most, if not every single, shooter. My bet is 20% it doesn't bother you at all ever, 5% it drives you crazy and you get rid of it, 10% it majorly annoys you, rarely, from time to time, 65% it moderately annoys you every now and then but mostly blows you away in a good way.
