One last time in this forum (sniff ...). Star Gazer Lily, take two. Had worked on it in the morning, before Phil’s post, so it is ok to post it, right? Hope you enjoy it (heavy sob!)

Lighting set up as in my earlier posting:

Post processing: Used Photoshop to mask the background and make it darker. Removed a silly leaf. Made the frame in Photoshop. See the posts:

Furrukh,

Striking image! Beautiful. Darn. Back to the drawing board for me. I went to
your webpostings page. Although the scenics didn't jump at me... over and over

again your still lifes did!!! I am a sucker for white-on-whites, but I enjoyed nearly
all the rest.

Keep shooting. (And keep posting.)

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Lonnie! I was very careful to make sure that the flower got the right exposure to preserve all these rich and subtle shades of color. I am glad you like it. See you in “Samples and Galleries”

Cheers!

Just took this photo down the street at the local outdoor flower seller:

Great shot. I haven't really taken any studio type shots yet with my 990. I should try because I have a studio set up in my basement.
Here is a link to some shots taken outside of lillys.

You now have "name recognition" on this forum. Be sure and alert us to your new photos that you add to your albums and we'll gladly make the extra click to follow the link to see them. This one is tremendous, but I still like the monochromatic vase and flowers. It looked like a classic. Joan C

Derek, very nice shots! I have found that by using controlled studio lighting with appropriate diffusers and reflectors, you can hit CP 990 just at the right sweet spot, as far as exposure is concerned. If you remain within a certain contrast range, then the 990 is capable of giving excellent results.

Good Luck with your studio work!

Thanks Joan. I know I have many friends at this forum. I appreciate your encouragement. I also think that most of the images look better in monochrome (or duotones, tritones), because color often distracts instead of adding something of value. Star Gazer Lily is one of the exceptions. Here the subtle shades of color is everything.

Cheers!
