R1 help please

I passed my R1 onto my grand daughter a while back and forget all the works of it.

She just phoned me about how close you can get using Macro. She can get pretty close using manual focus but can't seem to get in close on auto focus (maybe 12") is that right or is she missing something. I told her to use the wide angle end of the lens. She has found the macro button on the side of the camera OK.

Thanks for your help, it's just been so long since I've used an R1 and she is 350 miles away so I can't handle the camera.

The minimum distances are:
full wide = 35cm
full tele = 40 cm

Auto focus will be slower in macro mode.

But there is the macro-auto-focus (middle af-switch position) which gets a bit closer to the objects. That is what I experienced.

Even though the R1 isn't very good at macro,the best performance is achieved at full tele zoom.

I sold my R1 but still have the close-up lens, in mint condition.
