FZ35 revisited

As always, another fine set!
thanks!
I am a proponent of the FZ35's in cam processing as it takes care of CA and barrel distortion as well as faster shot to shot times as you mentioned.
Good point, about the in camera CA correction...and barrel distortion (the latter, wouldn't effect me,as I use the FZ35 mainly for the long tele zoom stuff...hardly ever will be used at the wide angle focal length).

I'm sure the in camera processing does better than i could ever do !

I was wondering what the manual controls are like on the FZ35. What are the minimum/maximum aperture, iso, and shutter?
Thanks

All great images.
Thanks,Rich.
Somewhere on this forum I thought I read ISO 100 is the "sweet spot" for FZ35.
not sure.I'll have to check that out.
Any comments or views on how this compares to your FZ50?
My FZ50 experience,was brief.

Of course, they are different,in a few ways...like manual ,internal zooming ,ergonomics, control wheels, flash hot shoe...these are features no other FZ currently has.

IQ-wise...they are close....at higher iso settings,the FZ35 would surely win,me thinks.

At base iso.....not sure.....with the larger sensor,in the FZ50....might have a bit more Dynamic Range.

Aperture-Lens-

at full wide angle(27mm) = max f2.8 min f8
at full telephoto(486mm)= max f4.4 min f8

Don't confuse this,and compare it to a SLR/D-SLR.

With a small CCD Sensor, like the one in the FZ35 (1/2.3") , f2.8 is as fast as any f2.8 glass...

but has the DOF close to f11.

F2.8 on the FZ35 will NOT give you a shallow DOF. (only if shooting macro,or at 400mm+,then you can get more shallow DOF).

Also, you might want to stay away from using f8,on ANY small sensored digicam.
Reason: Diffraction,causing softer images.

ISO :

lowest setting= iso80

highest setting (at full 12MP resolution) = iso 1600

Highest setting possible (3MP High Sensitivity Scene Mode) = iso 6400

Again,this doesn't compare with a D-SLR.

Though the FZ35 has these settings, the Image Quality suffers, each time you go higher up the iso ladder.

By iso400,fine details have been smoothed out,to mask the noise.

DPReview recently reviewed many superZoom camera's,such as the FZ35,and they felt the FZ35 had the best balance, between Noise and maintaining fine detail....but it's no D-SLR.

Shutter speed:

Max=
at full wide angle (27mm) 1/2000
at full telephoto (486mm) 1/1300

Min= 60 seconds

Hope this helps

RAW takes over 3 seconds, before you can shoot again, with the FZ35...
Right. I just came back from my vacation in Yellowstone National Park here in the US. I shot with the LX3 (landscapes and people shots) and the FZ35 (wildlife). Shot raw + jpeg on both cameras. In retrospect, shooting raw was probably a bad idea. I think I missed some good wildlife shots because I could not snap again fast enough. Perhaps I just need to take a deep breath and let go of raw when I'm shooting with one of these little cameras. The jpegs they produce really are very good.

Very nice shots, by the way!

Yes,jpegs arent as bad as I thought.With the FZ8,too much chroma noise,even at iso100
Very nice shots, by the way!
Thanks,Will !
