Got a question. I just got a D90 with the 18-105mm kit lens. Trying to get a bag for it. Im planning on purchasing another lens in some time as well as a flash unit so i need a bag that will fit the body with the 18-105 attached as well as another lens and a flash unit. Does anybody know if any of these will fit all that and also if you know of any yourself please recommend. The most im willing to pay is 80 dollars. Thanks.

Tamrac 5502 Explorer 2
Lowepro Adventura 170
Lowepro Nova 170 AW
Tamrac 5767 Velocity 7x

This isn't a traditional "bag" which is the reason I like it.
The advantages are pretty clear.
1. No weight on your shoulders
2. It doesn't flop around when you move
3. easier access to equipment (opinion)

I wouldn't use anything else.

I guess I should have stated that one cannot store the body with the lens attached using the Newswear fanny pack. I store my d80 in one pouch (without lens) and my 70-300 VR and 18-70 in the other two pouches. If I'm not using the camera I don't care if the lens is attached or not.

The 70-300 VR is a tight fit because of the lens hood but I think the 18-105 is small enough to where that wouldn't be a problem.

I'd say go with something a bit bigger than the Lowepro 170.

Mine just fits my D90 with 18-200 attached in the center section, an SB-600 flash in one side, and the battery charger and some cleaning supplies(!) in the other side. My polarizing filter has to live at the bottom of the center section.

The front section is flat. I can just fit extra flash batteries and the remote in there.

Your proposed setup will fill up the inside. The front section probably wouldn't work for the battery charger, if you carry that.

I have a D90 kit and I carry it in a Tamrac Express 6. The Explorer 2 is 1/2" wider and 1 1/4" deeper. They’re both about the same height.

The height is tall enough for carrying the camera with the 18-105 with its hood installed. That’s great for me because I leave the camera turned on in the bag. I can just pull it out and shoot...it’s always ready to go. I also have a 70-300, and it will fit in the bag but essentially, the camera is standing on the 70-300...it goes all the way to the bottom! I’d say the bag doesn’t really need to be any higher unless you’ve got a high-end big glass.

The D90 is a tall camera and the 3 3/4" depth of my Express 6 is tight. I had bought the bag for a Pentax K-x (was perfect for that) but then returned the K-x for a D90 and decided to keep the bag. It does work, but yeah...the 5” depth of the Explorer 2 might be littler bulkier than my Express 6 but will make getting the camera in and out of the bag easier.

The width is where you’re going to have a problem. You didn’t say what kind of lens you’re getting, but if it’s any sort of AF-S zoom then you’ll need a wider bag. I could not get the camera (with a lens attached) and the 18-105 and 70-300 in my bag at the same time...it wasn’t even close. Flashes are fairly large as well. Judging by the fact that the Explorer 2 is only 1/2" wider than my Express 6, I’d say that there is no way you’re getting an 18-105, flash, and another zoom lens in there. You might be able to squeeze in a 35mm f/1.8 or a smaller prime, but I’m not even sure of that.

If you want to carry all that I would say that the Express 7 is a perfect bag. It’s not as deep as the Explorer 2, so less bulky, but it’s 11 inches wide...nearly 2 inches more than an Explorer 2.

The Velocity 7x suffers the same problem…it’s not nearly wide enough. With its depth you can keep a small prime in the main compartment.

I’m actually glad that I didn’t get a bag large enough for my 70-300 zoom. It’s a heavy lens, and the D90 ain’t no lightweight itself. The combo makes for a very heavy bag. What I did instead is to get a Tamrac large lens case (MX5378) which is designed for the MAS system, and is a perfect fit for the 70-300. I just put it on my pants belt and it’s perfect. The lens stays there, out of the way and it’s easier to carry and to switch lenses on the move. And when I don’t need the 70-300 I just leave it home and I have a nice small camera bag instead of a big one that’s half empty. But that works for me because I walk around with the camera here in New York City.

I have the Velocity 7x, It holds my D90 with 70-300vr attached my 18-105vr and my Sb600 plus some filters and such in the front pocket. It is comfortable but it seems to be getting smaller, LOL

I have the same camera and lens as you. Since it's my only lens i always have it attached and store it like that when at home in the standard Nikon bag that was a gift with the purchase. There's room in there for other stuff too like the manual, another lens, flash, cards, hood, filters etc.

I also use Nikon bag when i'm with my car and i know i won't have to carry the camera far.

However, when shooting involves activity (walking, cycling, hiking etc), or anything not in close range to my car, meaning i'll have to store the camera more than once before i go back to my car/home, i'm using a Lowepro Offtrail1. http://products.lowepro.com/product/Off-Trail-1,1980,7.htm

It seems it fits perfectly for the D90 with 18-105 attached. Also the two side cases are detachable and you can walk around with only the middle case. Access is easy, storing also even with the strap on. Often i carry it on my shoulder rather than on my waist.

Lowepro cost me 40 Euros while Nikon bag nothing and 6 months now i'm very happy with both.

I don't know if i helped you at all, just thought to tell what i use since we have the same gear. Best of luck :)

I use a Lowepro 250 fastpack (back pack style) to carry all my D90 gear. It holds the camera with battery grip attached with either the 16-85VR, 70-300VR or 85mm Micro attached and stores the other 2 along with my SB600 flash. It has a zipper on the side for quick access to the camera w/o having to open the entire bag (why I got it). It also has pockets for filters, SD cards, cleaning kit etc:

For a long time I've wanted a bag that would be just big enough to carry the camera ready to go with either the 16-85VR or 70-300VR mounted with lens shade attached and the Nikon battery grip on my D90. After much research I go this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E3XLZI/ref=oss_product
Its the Tamrac 5630. I own a few other Tamracs and I'm very pleased with them.

With these 2 bags I put all the gear in the Lowepro and when I get to where I'm going usually attach one of the lenses (Usually 16-85) for the day if we're out doing something).

I may get one of the accessory cases that attach to it to carry the SB600 but I may as well just carry the Lowepro if I need that flash.

Agree! seems to be a different bag for every occasion. Currently use 4 for the d90 and varying amounts of kit.

Two sizes of National Geographic bag, which are great for varied amounts of photography equipment whilst still being useful for phone/ wallet/ books etc and two Domke's - an F-6 [for photography trips...], and an F-5XB [will just take a d90 with standard + 1 other lens, very compact, great for dodgier places...]
