If you want to try Olympus lenses in the U.K., up to and including the 300mm f2.8, you can do it here:

http://e-group.uk.net/

As the scheme is supported by Olympus, you can claim back up to 7 days hire if you subsequently decide to buy from a bona-fide U.K. dealer.

Hi David, unfortunately, although this an Olympus forum we suffer from Oly vs Nikon "burnout". This generally means we get constantly bashed by a few well known trolls on a regular basis. Despite the protestations that Nikon is ultimately a superior system they seem to spend more time telling us about it than actually using it.
There is only one post saying "Get a Nikon", but the poster is a frequent user of his camera. Who exactly do you mean? I can list quite a few here who never posted a single image or contributed to challenges, yet they both pretend to be pro and have opinions on everything. Most of those are pretending to be Olympus users, but we have no proof other than their words.

I have never seen a single statement saying "Nikon is ultimately a superior system" above, except in your post. Have you?

The question is salt or sweet (in the UK) and whether to spend the extra .50 pence to get the large. I think the large is a good deal if you're going to buy popcorn. I prefer salt because it allows me to work with lower apertures ... and I like the taste.

Also the handling is better ... less sticky.

hi all

i've just set up a photographic printing buisness but i'd like your "personal" opinions on dslr kit for my personal kit:

my curent personal kit is e3, 12-60swd, 50-200swd, 50 macro

which would you spend the money on

1) 7-14, 14-35, 35-100, 90-250, 150, 300, tc1.4, tc2.0 all SHG glass

or

2) 14-24 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, 70-200 f2.8, 300 f2.8, tc1.4, tc2.0, d300s, d3s, d3x

both work out to about the same price in the uk £18,000
needs to withstand harsh weather conditions.
i shoot 40% nature, 10% portrait, 20% landscape, 10% sports 10% other

i have a pretty good idea of which system i'll get but i'd like to hear your views.
...is that a missunderstanding or are you getting all three Nikon bodies in alternative 2)?

actualy it was my grandads car and its passed its mot every year i've had it only 25000 miles on clock, i'm not a car enthusiast.

yes

all 3 nikon bodys + lenses = 18000

the oly lenes = 18000
I am sorry, but nice as the oly system is, I cant see how it can be a better choice if we are talking about IQ (resolution, high ISOs) or ability to get the shot (AF, fps). Not to mention the security in having three bodies instead of one for paid work.

... for 15000 and for the 3000 left I would go for E3 / E 30 with 3 spare batteries, some filters, 14-54, 50-200 and mayve 9-18. Woohoo, and setup small studio in my new village residence to gain inspiration and ideas :)

I prefer Oly, the colours, the 4/3 proportion, the SSWF, and the fast, high-quality lenses, as does most everyone on this forum. You may find PROs that use Nik professionally, and Oly personaly, because they prefer Oly.....

But, which is "better" to use and shoot with? or, which is "better" for use in a business? These could be different questions.

So much about running a business is marketing.

Your customers will consider you more of a PRO if you use Nik rather than Oly; cynical, eh ?

Do you really want to waste time explaining to anyone why you use Oly, and, convincing them that it is better (for you, and them) ?

Firstly, my post was not addressed to you, it was to the OP.

Secondly I wasn't referring to this thread specifically and lastly, you know full well the posting history on this forum and the baiting that goes on, particularly from Nikon users. It rarely comes from Canon, Sony or Pentax users, almost always Nikon "enthusiasts".

FWIW, some people on here don't do themselves any favours, but then neither do you.

warning my posts often contain humour,if you do not understand this concept look it up in the dictionary.

Just so I'm clear...you're about to spend $18K on photography equipment...and you need to ask on an internet forum how to spend it?
Not exactly, the OP was in British Pounds. It is aproximatelly $27K according to latest exchange ratio.

Hi

I can not even dream with such lenses and cameras, but I've learned that every body an every lens have its learning curve. So, it sounds much more reasonable to me that you stay with Oly, and you buy these lenses step by step, instead of buying them all at the same time.

If you switch to Nikon anyway, better you start with one body and a couple lenses, and maybe after one year, plan to add something new.

The colours are only a result of the good jpeg and very easily adjusted in any camera to produce colours you like. The lenses are indeed excellent unfortunately the high end lenses are just as heavy and often more expensive, and considering the relatively poor sensors , AF etc. I am genuinely baffled why anyone would pay around £6000 typical UK price for a 300mm F2.8 . Now if we are talking about kit lenses then Olympus is a real winner as they offer great performance at a great price.

very true

Or you deliver the best results which are aided by using the best tool for the job in hand.
It does not matter how good a hammer you have if you need a spanner.
Do you really want to waste time explaining to anyone why you use Oly, and, convincing them that it is better (for you, and them) ?
For every shooting scenario I can think of the Nikon set up is either far better, better or at worst just as good [ eg if you have to up the iso to match DOF by stopping down]. Though I have serious doubts that the OP is genuine and is most liley a banned fanboy or genral mischief maker

One thing you'll realize very soon is that this forum is not friendly. In fact, I hardly ever come back here now because of that.
