Here in the US, I just ordered a GH1 w/14-140 for $1000 usd from Club Panasonic w/free shipping but sales tax added.

Hi,

Can you tell me where you got it at that price (£798 - after cashback I assume)?

Thanks

Mark; Can you elaborate on this PM deal from JL and the Three Year Warranty?

Thx

Brad

Info on John Lewis Price Matching - http://www.johnlewis.com/jl_assets/pdf/nku_leaflet_november_2009.pdf

The only thing to watch is that they don't match pricing against web sites (e.g.Amazon) and they will only match prices against local stores who have stock, my local JL wouldn't price match against Jessops, which is directly outside the store because they didn't have the GH1 in stock - if they had, they would have matched the price.

One final point, if you do buy from John Lewis, they extend the price match for 28 days from the original purchase, even if they drop the price themselves. I've exercised this on two occasions recently, I bought a TV, they dropped the price 2 weeks later and were giving away a free BluRay player, so I asked about a refund and was extra cheeky and asked for the BR player as well and got both without any persuassion, similarly, bought a GH1 about a month ago, they dropped the price a couple of weeks after and I got the difference refunded then and there with with no arguments at all - top store!

The 3 year guarantee upgrade seems to be an undocumented benefit of the cash back scheme. I sent off the form etc. etc., and not only got the £75 cheque back after only a couple of weeks, I also got the 3 year extended warranty, which was a bonus to say the least.

Hope that helps, D.

P.S. I'm not a John Lewis employee...

Just one thing to add, JL will PM against stores nation wide, not just local stores, Mather's is hundreds of miles from me and my PM went through fine as have several others i have done.

Hi Chris, i had John lewis do a price match with Mather's @ £873 and then got the cashback of £75, or just buy direct from Mather's.
Mather's link.

Yes, Mathers typically have the most compeitive prices in the UK. As someone born and raised in the NW of England but now exiled on missionary duty in the South (to try and instill good northern values), I make regular returns to my native territory. If Panasonic want me to upgrade my G1 camera body to a G2, perhaps they should supply review models to sites like dpreview in a more timely manner as my Northern conservatism (with a small c) makes me reluctant to buy anything before I have seen a good review and most of those published so far are either rehashes of a press release or 'golly gosh what a clever journalist I am' types of overt self promotion.

Thanks Mark,

Will look into this.

Currently have e-p1 with 20mm & 45-200mm & 50D with 70-200 & 60mm macro.

Torn between dumping Canon gear altogether, to stick with a single system (& deciding if IQ is ok with m 4/3 (it is, but I still feel more wow factor with Canon gear ... probably psychological based on knowing the price of it !!! ;-) ), or getting a walk about lens for the Canon.

The GH1 lens is certainly an appealing walk about lens, so at current prices I am tempted. Not sure I can justify owning 3 bodies though ....
