Here we have two pictures, both taken on a tri-pod at ISO100 with the image stabilisation off.

One picture is taken with a camera with an EXR sensor the other is taken with a camera with Sony's BSI sensor. I have made the same adjustments to both images except the BSI image has been downsized to match the EXR's smaller resolution.

Can you guess which cameras where used?

Which picture do you prefer and why?

Paul.

first one is from exr i think.
the dynamic range is higher in the dark zones.
the second seems to be more sharpen..but is difficult to compare

They're both ordinary but if I took one it is probably the second one. The first is a mess, Sony smearing for sure.

I am not experienced in EXR. So I can only refer to the second question.

The first one shows more details in the dark areas, the second one is sharper. I would prefer the second one and try to brighten up the dark shadows.

Regards Nic

I preferred the number 2 shot.

Don’t know if its exr or bsi, I’ve seen so many PP adjustments done to images that at times I can’t trust my eyes.
I did study both at 300% and………….

the #1 shot has less actual detail, has a bit more smoothing of that detail, has less saturated colors and has what appears to me to be less than accurate coloring.
Reminds me of shooting my S100fs at 3mp.

I know they are ordinary but I wanted some foliage in the shot.

I’ve been at work today and just popped out this evening to get a couple of pictures for comparison.

Are you not going to have a go at the questions either?

Paul.

Sorry, cannot tell. No humans in the pics.

If there was at least one, I could then tell if he had his backside illuminated!...

Thanks Nic, what Fuji do you shoot with then?

Another vote for No.2... Care to take a stab at what cameras I used?

Paul.

I did answer, the first is the Sony sensor = BSI
The questions where:

1. Can you guess which cameras where used?

2. Which picture do you prefer and why?

So which of those two is your answer too then? ;)

Paul.

Oh you sneaked in an edit while I was typing. :P OK you have answered one what about the other.

Not sure we're looking at the sensor performance here. Unless we work from raw we are just looking at the jpeg engine at work!

I've used cameras with both and my gut feeling is that both are good sensors and there probably isn't a lot in it..I've seen raw from that BSI on a Ricoh camera and it's pretty impressive at high ISO.

EXR is champ for DR though I do think that.

I prefer the second image if that means anything

The questions where:
(the questions were :) Wouldn't expect a pom to make this mistake twice but back to the post
1. Can you guess which cameras where used?
The first one is the Sony sensor because of the smearing.
2. Which picture do you prefer and why?
I prefer the second one

In my original post I was probably too cryptic so I have inserted translation from what I said in my first post above with each of the questions (in orange) and the answer above (in black)

That did take a while to get out. I am having breakfast so forgive me, my mother told me never to type with my mouth full.

LOL, Nice one. :P You don't want to play then?
I think the first one is the EXR. Less contrast
The second appears too 'processed' and mushy. Reminds me of something!...

As I do not own an EXR cam nor (thank God) the backside illuminator, I cannot really compete. I only guess that the 1st one is from your newly acquired £90 F70 you mentioned the other day (good price btw)

'Good-game, good-game' as Foresythe would say to busty Anthea years ago!... :D

Fair enough but the Fuji does not have RAW.
I've used cameras with both and my gut feeling is that both are good sensors and there probably isn't a lot in it..I've seen raw from that BSI on a Ricoh camera and it's pretty impressive at high ISO.
I have not shot this one in RAW yet so I would not know.

I have to agree with you there Barry.

It's only for fun but that’s 3 for the second image now.

Sorry about the where instead of were. I asked can you guess which CAMERAS where used, NOT which sensor. :0
