::Weekly Street Photography-June 27th::

i kind of like this second one better. they are both good though. with such strong graphic elements in the subject, it would be a challenge to work it into a more complicated overall composition, but it could be rewarding to try.

i think the first one works best, sal. they all have something going for them, but they are also all pretty similar, tightly cropped telephoto cuttouts from a scene. for such shots to work the best they can, i think they really need dramatic or otherwise very perfect expressions.

otherwise, it can add interest to include some of the surrounding scene, both for compositional and narrative interest. one of the elements which adds to the first on, eg, is the fact that the legs in the bg contrast to the upper torso subjects. but i suspect you could do more.

nice set.

seems like maybe there's a shortage of hair conditioner over there--their manes all appear extra crispy.

interesting choice of framing. i'm not sure what the two subjects have to do with each other, other than apparently having something to do with other subjects off-camera.

the guy's outfit is striking, and the pose is also.

"Grace" in the title is ironic. I walked to an equally touristy, but more lower middle part of downtown, the South Street Seaport. This guy was interesting, but vulgar, dancing energetically and jerkily to how own, music unheard by others, not too far from a public dance floor. The couple's indifference shows his weird social isolation. He's an idiot, in the original Greek eytmology, of someone isolated and not in contact with the experience of other people.

I suspect Seattle is too cool to have specimens like him in public.

Thanks for the comments.

I agree about the processing. I had about 100 images I wanted to get up that night. After awhile you just want to finish. I'll be going back to some of the other Festival galleries and re cropping/re editing some of them. Maybe replace some with other images.

I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

And, like HCB, a great job in making as many faces as possible visible.

There is a word in English for a shot like this: Wow!
Alexander, I like the shot also; nicely done...

I don't mean to hijack your post and fine photo, but the comment by Frank reminded me of a shot with many faces visible that I took in 2006:

...at my grandson's tag football game. I printed it and passed it out to all the parents.

this has some formal elements that work well--the way the girl is juxtaposed on the black strip, the bg faces facing each other--but for some reason i can't quite nail down it doesn't really work for me. i don't think it is because we are looking down; maybe the absence of hands and feet are more troubling to me. but fundamentally, i don't know.

it's an interesting shot. i don't think it's great, but maybe if i knew you really felt that this was a shot that spoke to you, i would invest more effort into appreciating it. (same as happens with any art.) you say you like the light, for instance, but i am not seeing that so much.

mostly just musing to try to understand my reaction to the shot more.

Reminds me of some HCB shots I saw in the recent show. In fact, I have my eye out for the occasion, but a tele zoom and a pro body may make that impossible.

Because of the POV and the varied orientation of the people, this is not as unified as a great HCB, but the variety of different interesting expressions and details (smoke, necklace) give it its own excellence. And, like HCB, a great job in making as many faces as possible visible.

I appreciate very much yours comment:
It is interesting to see this shot
through your eyes with your fresh impressions of recent HCB show.
Thank you!

I have some more similar photos during the culmination moments, but there emotions become unequivocal, banal and me not interesting...
