A visitor to this site might get the impression from some of the compilations posted that we do not do much actual street photography. Here is a quick compilation of some actual street photos from just two weeks, 5/9 and 5/16. Just for balance.

Frank, I think you are right - I was probably on those steps that you see on the bottom right of the photo. Didn't realize the picture was so disorienting. I was struck more by the light and the girl's stare and there was only one picture before she turned her back to me. But I will keep your advice in mind to avoid future confusion. Thanks!

In the excellent book that accompanies the recent HCB retrospective at MOMA, HCB and the Modern Century, Peter Galassi says there are actually two different kinds of decisive moment:

The DM for the subject, the peak of action or the composition coming together.

The DM for the photographer, when he is in the right position, etc.

Galassi maintains that even for HCB the two decisive moments coincided very rarely.

Perhaps there is a 3rd decisive moment, which has to do with meaning, feeling, resonance?
