Hello guys, i have a tamron 90mm macro lens wich is on nikon mount, and i have no macro for my pentax k20d camera. Can i use the tamron lens in my pentax camera? i dont care if i dont have autofocus or autoexposure... thanks!

This is quite strange given the post in the other forum ????????

If you already have the lens, then you may want to say that so you get the appropriate advice. Mine would be to sell it and get a Pentax mount.

Not strange as i did not get the correct advice yet... i got just an idea that could damage my camera or my lens.. i still want to know if the nikon mount can damage my lens or my camera by using it in a pentax camera, and i wont sell it because i use my nikon camera for the 1/500 flash sync ability...

Like I mentioned, the starnge thing is why you didn't mention this, as you would have gotten help from those who know better than me.

AFAIK, this adpter will work but has glass elemnt to preserve infinity focus, so will affect IQ.

I've heard some claiming that some old Nikon glasses will just mount without an adpater, but is mounted the wrong way, and is not locked so could fall off the camera. I would not recommend it, and as this is not an old glass will not work either.

I bought a used 90mm Tamron SP adaptall on fleabay for just over $100, so why not sell the one you have and get the adaptall with 2 mounts?

maybe because i dont want to lose money on a recently bought lens... :S:S:S
If you have a Nikon camera you plan to use it with, great, then the adapter is is a way to at least get something out of it. But if you have no Nikon camera (eg, either you had one but got rid of it, or perhaps you bought the lens by mistake) then you're much better off simply selling off the lens and replacing it with something appropriate. Won't cost you an more than buying an adapter, and you won't have to give up AF and infinity focus or IQ.

As long as you have a Nikon, this would be your least expensive option for doing macros with both cameras. I have purchased items from that retailer and know he is reputable.

Just be aware that your aperture will be totally manual- you open up for accurate focus and stop down to the desired aperture (for depth of field) before metering and shooting. That can get old after a while if you plan on doing alot of macro photography.

There are a few ways...

adapter with glass gives infinity, adapter without glass loses infinity and bare (at your own risk).

I have an adapter without glass but never use it because I am happy (and dumb enough) to mount my Nikon lenses bare.

A lot more Nikon lenses work bare on Pentax than I previously thought, in fact I have not had one that did not (to at least be able to take a pic bare) yet...most work good.

Even my VR kit lens does (and the stabilization is at least as good on the K-x with that lens as it is using VR on the D50), my three Nikon af screwdrive lenses all work and the couple of other mf lens I have tried do as well.... a couple have needed some minor surgery to use on Pentax (lenses I got before I got a Nikon D50) but that is things like a 35 1.4 (extends back into the camera a bit too far broken lens I got cheap to try and then threw away) and some AI lenses seem (or at least seemed) as if the meter coupling rim was too thick...may have just been a bad day..

EDIT Nikon lenses without a aperture ring need a way for the aperture to be held open so would not reccomend mounting them bare on Penatx ...I only mounted my VR kit lens to do a stabilization comparison and used sticky tape to hold the lever open.

That Nikon macro would be a great lens to use on a Nikon D50 with the 1/500 flash.

If doing macros with it is the reason to use it on the K-x then try a cheap glassless adapter ...may be enough but not good for other stuff.

If you DO mount it bare it is stop down but still stabilized and I have found that for macros in the field, I can see well enough with stop down lenses (reversed on macro converters), I can see well enough in the winter sun at around f8..which is what I tend to use....f 5.6 to f11 and even f11 can be ok with the sun in the right place...that is with a K-x and its pentamirror...your prism should be brighter still....though of course indoors or not so bright and you might struggle.

My advice after all that is to just keep that lens for Nikons and get a cheap old lens like a manual focus 50mm, get a cheap variable 2x 1:1 macro converter or similar and and a reversing ring and you will have even greater range (you would have 50mm, 100mm, variable macro to 1:1 and by reversing the lens onto the converter...variable macro from 1:1 to about 2:1....that could cost you as little as $40 or so if you are lucky and you can buy the lens, adapter and reversing ring cheap enough if you look.

Hi

Thanks

Just do a EBAY search..... reversing ring 52mm Pentax.

I get 39 results right now (I am in Australia). cheapest is $3 (Australian....about $2.40 US) with postage from China another $1.39

Others for $4.50 Australian with free postage from Hong Kong Then others with prices a little higher some with free postage others not and some various combinations .....up to some combinations of cost and postage for $30 or so.

If you left out Pentax from the search, you might find a few more.

Reversing a 50mm lens is a good and cheap way of doing macro at about 1:1 (it varies), you can add extension tubes very cheap for greater magnification or do as I do and get a 1:1 macro converter for use the right waty around (gives variable macro UP to about 1:1 or greater reversed from 1:1 to ABOUT 2:1 (put a shorter lens on it and the magnification is greater 28mm is about 2:1 normal way and 4:1 reversed onto it.

Some of these converters can be pricey but if careful you can find them cheap...look for 7 element Teleplus or vivitar ones but there are others like Panagor 4 elemnt ones that might be good and cheaper (might not be able to use as a 2x converter with some...just use for macro either way). I also have a 3x 1:1 Mganicon one that is similar.

Good luck.
