717 Cases

What do people think of the various cases and bags for the 717, be them from Sony or elsewhere?

I bought a great functional protective LowePro case at BestBuy for about $25.

I think this is the perfect fit for the 707 and 717. It is amazing how much stuff you can put in this back and it remains functional!

I've got the Sony LCX case (the holster). It protects the 707 really well. The downside is, it's a very tight fit. Even tighter if you leave a quick release attached. So that when you're sliding the cam out it turns itself on most of the time. The little velcro'd pocket in the flap, for storing Memory Sticks, opens by itself sometimes. Causing you to have to scamble around on your hands and knees, playing Sony's version of Pick-up-Sticks....lol

I like the look of the new case. The one with the "Speedo" look..lol But I think it'll have even worse tightness issues.

Hi, which model of LowePro case did you guys get?

And any other recommendations for cases? I'm looking for one that's got plenty of room for extra batteries and memory sticks.

I bought a Sony bag (LCS-VA5) last week, that is discontiued, but found it at best buy for $50.00. It is just large enough for filters, batteries and the like. The lid is what I like, it has ONE quick snap to open it and the lid overhangs the side for minor weather protection.

I got the holster-stlyle Tamrac 5514 (Zoom 14), based on a recommendation I read here, from B&H for $20.50:

The 717 fits well but not tightly. Also fits easily with quick release plate from Velbon 347GB tripod. There is a mesh pocket inside and one on the outside. Easily carry a few batteries and several mem sticks. It has a detachable shoulder strap, a carry loop, and a loop for a belt. I don't think the Sony case has the belt loop. I also bought a Domke belt from B&H, as that's how I plan on attaching it much of the time to myself and my tractor. You can also get a Tamrac chest harness for it and other modular attachments that you can see on Tamrac's site.

I like it.
