Very quiet here. People are probably watching WC.

The world cup is so big, it's only ESPN in the U.S. Oh well. And from many reports, many viewers are tuning out because of the damn horn sound from the game. Even the competitors have complained from news reports I've seen! :D
Are you sure it's not just the performance of your team or lack thereof? ;)
I have no idea who has won, lost, or tied. Such a boring sport.

You are to some extent right. This football game is too noisy and it can be boring, but not to the majority of people in our "world", the one called earth, when compared to golf. I think I will wait till I am 80 to try golf.

B O R I N G

it shows how the world celebrates trivial tribalism

and it is

B O R I N G
Not everything is negative if you have a positive attitude s this Kuala Lumpur-based writer and TV producer and mother explains.

The tribalism of football is well known; it creates a strong cultural identity which keeps us committed to each other despite our differences. It is the only time that supporters of any given World Cup team will stand united, regardless of the colour of their skin, religion, gender and moral beliefs.

The role of tribalism in human evolution is a strong one – it creates a cultural identity independent of a lot of other things that go on in our lives which tend to bog us down. In doing so, it brings out positive tribal values of egalitarianism and unity in each of us

Looks like Dustin is the one to beat, but I'm sure Tiger will give him a run for the money...

Yesterday I started watching the U.S. Open golf championship. Totally awesome!

Could Pebble Beach be any more photogenic? As if!

Surf, sand, small fairways, fast greens - . (Can you tell that I just started playing golf again recently.....after ten years of no golf.)

Must be what heaven looks like!

Go Tom Watson! Go Phil! Go Rory! Go Tiger!

I know how you feel. It's how we feel about baseball and basketball.
I'm not a big baseball fan, but how can you be bored with basketball and not with a 3 hour soccer games where you hope someone will score a goal in that time? The soccer field is way too big and there are too many players. Both accounting for how boring it is and how low scoring it is.

Too big for the too big, too many for slow brains. If the amount of scoring was any indication of level of entertainment, basketball would be high on that list. Yawn.

So I guess soccer is more about drinking and starting fights with the opposing team's fans than actually following the "action" - if there is any action worth noting.

Basketball - they play for what, an hour? And the end result is who can win with 5 seconds to go - if only they just started with 5 seconds to go... yawn

Chile - Swiss 1-0, another offside goal. Poor refereeing standard on this WC. BTW, go USA ! They were robbed a winning goal you know.

Go USA!

Those players deserve more than anyone outside of US. They receive the least attention, but actually have been playing well in WCs. Maybe better than England.

Btw, many bigs are in trouble. France is practically out, England, Germany, Italy, and Spain are also in trouble.

And the All Blacks clobbered both the Irish and the Welsh while the Springboks clobbered the French. Oh boy do we have an exciting rugby Tri-Nations coming up.

My full sympathies by the way to the French. They have fine sporting traditions and I hope they recover quickly.

The better more competitive games, yes. But many games throughout the regular season are wide margins of victory and it's not even close starting the 4th quarter. I'd rather see a good competitive game than a blowout, wouldn't you?! ;) I'm sure just like good soccer teams might be tied 0-0 or 1-1 until the end so, like your example, it's all about who could score in the last 5 seconds. :D

Yeah, that's why the Super Bowl is called the Big Game. It's the biggest single sporting even in the world for TV viewers, something like 1 billion viewers tune in for it every year. And a 30 second commercial costs about $2.5 million :D
Wow, you definitely pulled that 1 billion out of the hat :) This is simply impossible. American football has near to 0 interest outside North America. And your population is far below 1 billion. So, there's absolutely no way that 1 billion viewers would watch that game :)

Hey, lets go easy on the poor French, they lost the rugby as well. I think we should give them some sympathy.
Well, I bet that after Henry handball, French won't get any sympathy from outside France for a long time...
