I think it would be great if Pentax devloped and started to sell a DA* 85mm f1,4 SDM lens. It should be a topnotch lens, okay probably expensive, great for portrait.

Well having it in production would also be a good thing. I already have the 55mm f1.4 so I would prefer a 85mm for having some more difference between the two lenses (a bit more then the 77mm).Having a hard time understanding what the primary advantage would be (to you) over the FA 85mm 1.4?
Further, the FA 77mm too. Thoughts?
I already have the 55mm. It's a great lens. I would want also the 85mm just to have the option to have a little more distance to my object. And having the choice to do that. I love doing streetphotography and portrait. Sometimes sports (mostly indoor sports so using it in de f2 - f2,8 range). It's my understanding that 85mm on full frame is an optimum focal length for portraiture work. The DA* 55mm 1.4 is the equivalent to that on APS-C. Why would You would you want a 85mm which is 135mm on APS-C?
--Very happy to say that I now own a FA* 85mm/f1.4 lens. It is really great. 1994 production and brand new.
Actually 85mm is on the short side for portrait work. The 85mm and 135mm are the two standard lenses I use on my 5D for people. An 85mm on an APS-C gives you a 130mm equivalent which makes it an excellent option (as shown in the images above).Unfortunately 85mm for portrait work is a little to long for standard head shoulder shots.
Not very flattering, exaggerating the subjects nose size !
The 77mm is about the limit I would be comfortable with for this use.
That's why I use the DA*55mm and the FA*85mm on my K-7, wich match up to your use on your 5D.Actually 85mm is on the short side for portrait work. The 85mm and 135mm on an APS-C are really good focal lengths for event work or indoor sports like volleyball or basketball. They are fast and give you good reach. I have my 85mm Sigma on pre-order and I am crossing my fingers Sigma brings out a 135mm f/1.8.
Pentax has two great lenses in the old 85mm and 135mm that they could update as DA* if they ever decide to get serious again. Other than a macro lens Pentax offers nothing from 77mm up to 200mm for people who prefer fast primes.
Hello loock,85mm is too short for me, but I prefer to use full frame35, not the stupid - aberrant - decadent - retarded APS-C.
I would prefer a smc D-FA 90 f 1.7 or 1.8 Limited, very good for both APS-C and FF35.
I have smc-F 135 f 2.8, a little to long for APS-C, but usable, and very good for FF35.
Death to APS-C !
