Bummer! Anyone else have doa refurbs? Most of the comments I've seen here on the Nikon refurbs has been quite good. The autofocus just refuses to operate, tried three different lenses, all AF D. It won't recognize the lenses, thinks it has a manual lens on it. Exif won't pick up any lens data.

Actuations is OK -- 472 so it hasn't been around the block.

Just bummed, had big plans for shooting this weekend. Back to Fuji land I guess.

. . . is set to autofocus?

Equipment problems can happen, but I've never had an autofocus problem that was not due to my own failure to set up the camera properly.

went through everything with the Nikon tech on the phone and no luck. Where are there settings that would turn off the autofocus that I might miss? He didn't go to the menus, is there a setting there?

M/S/C switch set to S. No manual/Auto switches on the lenses. The body did not pick up the lens info from any of the three lenses I tried, 85mm f1.8 AF D, 105mm f2.0 AF DC, and a 35-80 AF D zoom.

I always disable the shutter release focus and enable the AF-ON focus. It may have come that way.

All I can say is study the manual and all the ways of focusing and see how your camera is set up. You've got to go to the menus to do this. I'm betting there's nothing wrong with your equipment, just confusing focus settings!

It may just be me, but when something doesn't work right, I always assume it's me. And, so far, I've always been right! I should go to Vegas or something.

Did you try a reset? (two-button reset).

Could you still return that unit that you have to the seller ?

Don't these refurbished units have like 90 day warranty ?

Oh yeah, there is a 90 day warranty I'm just bummed to have to do that. I so wanted to be back to full frame this weekend.

First thing I tried. Interestingly the last thing the guy on the phone from Nikon tried.

Thanks,

I picked up a refurbished D700 about a year and a half ago and had no problems with it. I just picked up a really nice D3s with just 21 actuations on it. I did place a 3 year Mack warranty on both of them. I would try resetting everything and then see if it will work. I had a chance to pick up a refurbished 24-70 2.8 at a really nice price, but I was able to pick up a slightly used one that was like new for a hundred dollars less. Good luck with it.

Talked to J&R and they stepped up to the plate. Issuing a UPS pickup ticket and sending another one FedEx overnight at their expense. No hassels just apologies. Both the returns desk lady and the sales rep Oscar were great.

I bought a refurb d700 last summer from JR and it has been excellent. Other items I have bought from them have been shipped quickly and have worked fine.

Looks like you forgot to reset the date.

Nice photo. What lens did you use?
Got the body Friday as planned. Working great. Had a blast out in the Smokies early Sat AM.

Caught me on that one. It was a Sigma 18-35 at 18 I really missed the wide angle being available on the smaller sensor Fuji and Nikons.
