I am posting this to tell the world about the finest companion dog you could ever want or have. Our Jesse, a yellow Lab, was 12 years old, my friend, companion. She was better mannered than kids are today. She was the love dog! I am heartbroken that she is gone, but she had some afflictions that I did not want her to suffer. She was such a integral part of our lives. I have had a lot of dogs and breeds in my lifetime but want to tell the world, the Labrador Retrievers are the finest people dogs in the world and she is a most shining example of the heart these dogs have. Needless to say, she will be terrible missed. Posting this in memory of my friend and companion, I will never ever forget her, she will be forever in our memory and heart.... God speed Jesse, my beloved pal:

I can feel your pain reading your words and I am truly sorry.

I am sure you gave her the best and she's probably looking down on you right now with gratitude and love through those lovely eyes...
God bless her soul

ps If you see someone without a smile on, give him one of yours... :)

and she is smiling at you from the Rainbow Bridge as they say animals go there to their own heaven and every time you see a bright light you know she sent you a signal that she is OK.... Take care of yourself and your wife as I am sure she is saddened too....

You did your best and I am sure Jesse always knew that you loved here.... There are not much words that can ease it for you but just think that YOU are loved by many people and you keep on smiling !!!

So true today:

Do Dogs Go to Heaven?

The question, it seems to me, suggests more the arrogance of Man than the worthiness of these virtuous animals.

Consider for a moment, these personal observations of the dogs I have known and loved:

Without exception, they savored life for all it could offer. They faced every one of their days with a sense of adventure and joy and good-natured spirit, a spirit tempered only by an overriding eagerness to please and love their masters, for nothing gave them more pleasure.

Not to the smallest degree were they capable of recrimination, sarcasm, pettiness or treachery. They were, however, eminently capable of qualities to which Man can only aspire.

"Unconditional love", for example, is a very modern term Man has coined to describe a paragon of loving...an all-forgiving love, a love without reward, expectation, or promise of reciprocity.

Yet dogs, from time immemorial, have exemplified this ideal of love.

What other friend, I wonder, would have not a flicker of care whether you were successful or an abject failure, whether you were homely or comely, clean or smelly-dirty, foolish or clever, beggar or king?

Who else would judge you--not by your appearance, power, or money--but solely by the kindness of your hand and heart?

Yet who else, I ask, would forgive a blow with a kiss to the offending hand?

Come what may, he loves--no, adores--you, be you sinner or saint. And he will softly lick the sores and wounds the world gives you, and never ask (or worse, tell you) what you did to deserve them.

And if Man is a dog's "God", what man serves God with such a thoroughly cheerful, immediate and unquestioning obedience as a dog serves his master?

Show me a man who so delights in all the great bounties God has given him.

Show me a man as gleefully grateful for his wonderous blessings as a dog is for a scrap of would-be garbage from his master's hand.

Show me a man as trustful, as humbly devoted, as appreciative and joyfully submissive to God, as my brainless, souless dog is to me.

Yes, show me this man, this saint, who so embodies all these abiding virtues.

Then I will show you, my friend, a man with a soul as deserving of Heaven as the most meager of dogs.

I am sorry for your loss. From your words it sounds like you two gave each other their best. I'm sure Jesse appreciated it.

sorry for your lose. I know how much it hurts to lose an animal you love. I lost one of my dogs last year. They only want your love and give back so much in return. I spore my dogs rotten and would have it no other way Hope you find a new one to love soon

Dave, I know how you feel. We have always had a dog in our family and they were part of our family. It is always tragic when they pass on. We lost our 13 year old Toy Poodle 2 years ago and at our age we have decided we don't want to go through the pain of losing another of our family or of leaving one behind. As you have mentioned, you will never forget the joy your pets give you free of charge.

Best Regards................Ralph

Dave, my words won't mean a lot today, as today is filled with a lot of pain and sorrow.

I had to put my 14 yr old Golden down a few years ago. I didn't think I could cry so much, esp since I held him in his last minutes.

Today - it is ok to weep and miss your best friend. The pain will pass, but the memories will remain. Who else would give you such unconditional love? Treasure all the moments you had with her. Not everybody is so blessed. And know that you are not alone in this crazy process we call life.

Sorry to hear about your loss. We, too, have a black 10 years old lab and I can't imagine a day he will go with your Jesse to run in the prairie of sky but I'm sure they together will be happy.

Be strong

Dave,

My daughter's family has a chocolate lab that is also nearing her end ( 12 years) and as Jesse, Gus (Agusta) is everything you have described. What faithful and loyal companions these animals are almost defies expression.

We understand your grief and loss since no such dog can really be replaced. Each time I see and play with Gus I imagine it will be the last time and the emotions you described come boiling to the surface. Will I ever get to see her again? Will I ever get that truely happy reception again? Will she ever "gnaw" on my hand again? Will she ever push her nose under my hand to encourage a scratch or pet?

Thanks Dave for sharing this difficult time with us. There are many, I am sure, that can fully commiserate with you.
Warmest regards,
Jack
