Peace Agreement

Nic, don't feel disheartened (if you are). You did try. In order to exert a sense of peace it's going to take more than a few members - it's going to take some positive action on DPR's part. I think the first step should be banning people who complain needlessly about other people here.

The second step would be weeding out those individuals who only appear in the controversial threads - adding matches to dry hay. These people aren't that difficult to spot.

And the third step would be to make people sit out when the topic goes off photography - excessively.

There is also the unique (and at times, disturbing) mix of people participating here. Some are impossible to deal with, no matter how hard one tries. Easy fix - the Ignore function. :-)

Some people simply participate here just to argue with other people. I have several who follow me around, trying to antagnoize me. Again, easy fix - the Ignore function. :-)

Nic, at least you tried. I'm here to discuss photography but as we both know, many have a very different agenda - and these people would be thrilled to kill our joy for photography and would rather that we didn't post here. But this isn't their forum. :-)

As to these type people, if I want to deal with a cranky patooty, then I'll go dig up my second grade teacher.

Take care and thanks for trying.

I dont get it. It is what it is. If you're not selling it and making money off of it then who gives a crap really. And I dont understand why someone esle would care if an idividual hates or loves it. The only opinion that matters to me on this camera is mine. I take the pictures, I see the pictures. Some of these posts are written as if the posters have a personal stake in whether or not someone else likes the HS-10 or not. I just dont get it.

Sorry for the rant.

Thank You! =)

What has ticked me off here is that the OP starts a thread of plea for peace. No sooner than a few response later you see some false accusation thrown. It was obvious that the intent of that was to stir things up. When I questioned it I get attacked by a few individuals here. I've been called a fanboy, a fraud and other names I don't even care to remember. One even brings up some old discussions in and just won't drop it. (He still continue to do so as we speak). But that's ok, I am used to the FTF shenanigans.

What is sad about the FTF now is that it seems to be divided into camps. If one member of a camp speaks, even if it is BS, no one in that camp will say anything to correct it. If anyone opposses what that "member" says, be it wrong or right, swarms come out ready to sting just for the cause.

More often the discussion stray from the main issue. Often the camp participants disregards the facts and history of the discussion and ends up just being a clan war. Full of hate, full of personal attacks, full of nonsense. It is obvious that a lot of people here just can't forget past arguments, wounds never heal and salt spread over and over again.

That is what is wrong with this forum. And you are right, it will take a group effort to change that.

I for one do not belong to any camp. I go here because I like to discuss technology, find out about cameras that interests me, love seeing photos be it good or bad and don't mind sharing a few. I also don't hang out here year round. I go, stay and leave whenever I want to my own accord. But I will stand my ground, so long that I know it is right, and I will counter wits with wits and fire with fire.

Before FTF was such a wonderful place but as of the past couple of years I see the same fiasco over again and again. No thread can finish whithout mishaps here, and nobody can speak their mind. This is an open forum, this should be a place of "there is no stupid question here." And if the question is (stupid) it should be discussed and put down with civility. Even those threads with a potential for a good discussion gets shot down so quick that it is sickening. Is this freedom? I think not. And those who profess "freedom" and is guilty of shooting it down is the worst offender in my book.

I sure hope FTF will change but the way it is going now and if it doesn't happen soon I think I will be taking my usual slumber once more. Though I'm sure I'll be back when the new Fujis come out.

Is this fair Roy? Is there a track record of Nic starting this sort of thing? If so then maybe your point is valid but IMO it was an honest if not futile attempt.
When I questioned it I get attacked by a few individuals here. I've been called a fanboy, a fraud and other names I don't even care to remember. Sorry Roy, but you actively took part in the shenainigans as I did from time to time.

It is divided, pretty stupid really.

That is waht is wrong, we are all (mostly) doing that.

Stupid questions don't necessarily get put down unless there is some sort of bragging or wild claim made to accompany it. Unfortunately tere is collateral damage as everyone is on edge.

I am not talking about Nic (actually I commend him for doing so). I am pertaining to nams. His post is what I questioned. Sorry that was meant to be and comma and not a period and appologies if that portion is misunderstood.

Yes you are right as I have admitted that. But there is really nothing you can do when people attack you but to get involved. You get dragged in to it so to speak.

No I won't let anyone bully me, sorry.

This time it did and I have explained above. But what I am talking particularly here is not about this thread. Those who have been here long enough knows what I mean about "camps".
That is what is wrong with this forum. And you are right, it will take a group effort to change that.

Never say never. In fairness this forum has had its harmonious moments from time to time. But there's always someone who starts the fire.

That's the thing, nobody should be on the edge. If you are here long enough you'll find out why. Also the forum may seem quiet because a lot of people are using "ignore" (I don't) and other members seems to have taken a break. But watch, as soon as this forum is full with the usual casts, all hell will break loose. Then you'll see the true colors of the people here.

You really should spend more time taking pictures. The funny part is that it's fanboys like you who bring out the skeptics, resulting in more negative writing of the HS10.

So keep up with the good work. You should be proud of yourself. Are you sure you're not an anti-Fuji marketing troll? HAHAHAHAHA.

By the way, another HS10 is as good as DSLR thread got started, this time it's "D90 v HS10." Better run over there and start the marketing speak (or perhaps its lawyering speak judging by your nickname).

It is quite clear it is guys like you with 19 posts who hides behind a disposable name that stirs things up around here. What sad is that you managed to get some people to go with your flow. I wonder if you are someone's split personality here. There is a medicine for that.

"Disposable name"

I love it.

Marketing (or lawyering) at its finest. Seriously though, you should leave the forum because you're not really doing HS10 any favors. All you and your type do is give people unrealistic expectations that

1) brings out the skeptics
2) can only disappoint because nothing can live up to the hype

Here's a simple thing sentence for you to practice on, "The HS10 is a fine camera, but it's not the Holy Grail."

You got a point here lets hope ppl get on in life and don't try to argue things to death. Let’s also hope that the longer lasting members start inviting the so called fanboys into their holy forum as it is after all everybody’s forum as long as he behaves. Just to assure this does not applies to all long term members and vice versa not all new members behave badly. For sure some new comers did make arrogant remarks regarding the HS10 but they may only be rapped about their new toy. The more experienced should be above this remarks from newcomers and when criticise do it in a professional way (for sure I will have not insulted anyone as I have not named anyone nor should there be anyone who would agree to any of this unfounded accusations to have committed them. So no harm done to anyone) . Let’s all have fun to see what everyone is capable of doing with their little treasure S/O showed us the way let’s follow it.

You bristled already in posts 4 and 7 of this thread ... basically you got yourself good and worked up inside the first 10 posts ... the rest, as they say, is history of which you were a major player this time ..
Never say never. In fairness this forum has had its harmonious moments from time to time. But there's always someone who starts the fire.
Because some people have repeatedly created firestorms with misleading data and outright lies ... so those topics remain incredibly sensitive ... obviously #1 on the list is dSLRs versus bridge cams ...

So along comes a noob with no history in the forum whatsoever and starts some kind of naive thread that ignites a powder keg ... either another "look, my bridge can looks as good as a dSLR" or worse "why can't we all get along" ...

It's the Internet ... that will happen. It stuns me that you are not used to it yet ... this forum goes through cycles on every launch ... the F30 was probably as bad as the HS10, but few really remember that ...
Also the forum may seem quiet because a lot of people are using "ignore" (I don't) and other members seems to have taken a break.
The ignore button is necessary because the baby button is used as a weapon in this forum, with great effectiveness. Not accusing you, but I got nailed last weekend for 24 hours because I critiqued some awful images. It happens, and the ignore button is the only defense for it.

That's the kind of children we play with every day ...

And you wonder why there are fights ...
But watch, as soon as this forum is full with the usual casts, all hell will break loose. Then you'll see the true colors of the people here.
Wow ... don't pull your punches there pop, no one likes being patronized more than I do. Sheesh.

RoysLaw has been defending the HS10 for the last 2 months but hasn't bought one yet. That says it all for me really when you consider that price is certainly not an issue. This cam is cheap as chips.

The only other conclusions that one could think of him in nor buying one is that, either his wife won't let him, or that deep down he actually knows it doesn't live up to his own expections, or else he has no interest at all and deep down just likes a good ol' argument. So he just latches on to a topic/camera of his choice and defend that at all costs against all comers.

I have seen him even defend it against HS10 users themselves, when they bring up things they are not happy with from time to time. And it's not limitied with the HS10 which is why I believe it's the latter conclusion above. He told me all about what my EPL1 and NX10 can/can't do, despite never even getting the pleasure of sticking a memory card into any one of them. You get one on every forum. I had a geezer on m4/3s recently telling me all about my GH1/EP1 when he never even held one in his hands. Bizzare behaviour, eh?

Sure you can say that I played a major part on this thread and I have admitted that but no big deal. You can't be in an argument by being silent.

No I am used to that alright. What stuns me is that a lot of folks here say they detest these fire-starters, these flame-baiters yet when a new player pops in here like nams where all his 20 posts are clearly and nothing but flame-baits yet no one here would say anything, patronizing him/her even.

Now I don't know who this person is but it is clear that he is here for a reason. Perhaps I should dismiss it as double standards but the thought of it being planted sure grazed my mind. Now if my hunch is true and this is the kind of sick games now being played here, well, there's not much more to say.

I see no problem people using the ignore button at all if needed. It is there for a reason. The problem are the people that creates new user names just to avoid this block with the sole purpose of baiting, chaos or get their dose of attention fix.
But watch, as soon as this forum is full with the usual casts, all hell will break loose. Then you'll see the true colors of the people here.
Wow ... don't pull your punches there pop, no one likes being patronized more than I do. Sheesh.
That remark meant everybody, good colors or bad. But if that's how you feel, well, that came from you, not me. BTW I am much younger than you FYI.

Your baiting won't work on me. And as tempted as I am, you won't be the reason for me press the ignore or the complain button. Not from the likes of you.

But your brand new user name with all 20 posts of flame baits sure is gonna catch on quick here with the admins.

So flame and bait all you want but this will be the last time that I will respond to your taunting.

Hello RoysLaw,

You said: What stuns me is that a lot of folks here say they detest these fire-starters, these flame-baiters yet when a new player pops in here like nams where all his 20 posts are clearly and nothing but flame-baits yet no one here would say anything, patronizing him/her even.

My reasons are very simple, as stated in my previous post above to RoysLaw:
All you and your type do is give people unrealistic expectations that

1) brings out the skeptics
2) can only disappoint because nothing can live up to the hype

Here's a simple thing sentence for you to practice on, "The HS10 is a fine camera, but it's not the Holy Grail."
Note I don't say anything bad about the camera, only the fanboys who are doing the camera a disservice by overstating its capabilities.

Apparently, this concept is too hard for you and Royslaw to understand.

....never mind that, nams. I can understand these things coming from an over excited new HS10 user. You can cut these guys a little slack. Been there myself. But I can't understand it coming from a non-owner.
That's too funny. I'm guessing

1) he owns a lot of stock in Fuji,
2) he works for Fuji,
3) he works in marketing for another camera company, or
4) he's bonkers

Well I'm sorry to say that you are very wrong. If you look at my post history you will see that I am not an HS10 defender. It is you who always makes it an issue about HS10 no matter what the discussion is all about and that is called "mocking" .

However I do and will call out any BS I see. I called out yours and you derailed and made it an issue about HS10 and threw more BS which I called out again. And now you are just bitter because you got pwned .
The only other conclusions that one could think of him in nor buying one is that, either his wife won't let him, or that deep down he actually knows it doesn't live up to his own expections, or else he has no interest at all and deep down just likes a good ol' argument. Again some very wild assumptions. It is just so typical of you. Assume all you want and post more blabber as you wish but our discussion ends here. Our level of intellect clearly is a mismatch and I'm getting really tired of stooping down so low.
