Has anybody else noticed this??

Back in 2008 I posted a response to a thread regarding the differences between the 400D and 450D :-

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1031&message=28700518

Anyway I was browsing the web today for info and stumbled across the following blog :-

http://www.photos-of-the-year.com/articles/canon-450d/

Now I'm not really bothered, as it is word for word and has my name against it...

But if someone had asked me - I would had done a better job for them!

Regards

Andy.

Personally I would tell them to either remove it or provide compensation for the copyright violation. They seem to recognize the copyright as they go so far as to state that it is copyrighted and may not be copied without the expressed written permission of the copyright holder however unless they have a written agreement made by you (the copyright holder) then they stole this fully knowing that they were doing so. If they had asked permission in the first place then I am guessing you would have freely allowed them to use it however they did not which is both illegal and just plain insulting since they appear to be implying that they hold a copyright that they do not.

Hi Rick,

To be honest, I'm not really that bothered about it. However looking at the site, there are quite a few blogs on there. I wonder how many others have been 'borrowed'!

Makes you believe they have borrowed most if not all of them.

You should at least send them an email. Be kind and gentle but I think you need to do something. No matter how big or small, that forum post belongs to you. I see that they credited you which is good, but I still think you need to send them a friendly email suggesting that they ask first before they copy your words. What's next? Are they going to start taking pictures from here to put up on their page? Like my boss said to me one day, if they get away with the little stuff they will soon start to get away with the big stuff.

few years ago I had two different people request permission to use one of my earliest threads on their websites. I was impressed that: 1. They wanted to use my post & 2. They asked permission.

Sorry you were not offered the same experience.

Just me...

Feel free to use any of these additional letters to correct the spelling of words found in the above post: a-e-t-n-d-i-o-s-m-l-u-y-h-c If you find any extra letters, please place them here for future use...

like you, i would have no particular objection to such use of any post i made. but just on principle i think i would complain loudly about not being asked. to copy without pemission and then post a stern warning about copying without pemission seems inexcusable. am i violating copyright by copying their warning?

i am beginning to suspect that those who say i have snapped are not referring to my photography.

In m43 rumors, there is often s link posting to a DPR post. But here, this blogger has made it look like you are an author for their website. That's pretty deceitful, IMO.

I refuse to wed myself to any of these vendors. I'm just having fun taking pictures,
and watching the technology develop.

Ha Ha...

I just done a search on my name "Andy C Knight" (Altavista) and it looks like some one else has stolen the stolen text!! - Now what's the odds on that?? :-)

http://blog.dealbydeal.com/articles/canon-eos-450d-is-it-worth-the-upgrade-2.html

It found the previous blog too - so it looks like a good method.

Perhaps some of the other posters here should have a look. It would be interesting to know how widespread this is.

(I'm thinking that someone starts up a site - but nobody visits, so grab a few blogs to get lots of people reading and talking about it)

Yeah I think it's called an aggregation or harvesting site or something. They collect stuff people might be interested in, slap a blog site on it and add adverts to it and cash the money. You also see this with a lot of newsgroups that they turn into forum sites. They make lots of such sites to get high rankings in search engines as each site links to the other.

You should also be careful though. Warez crews and other shady side of the internet tries to get a slice of search engine rankings. They create sites with viruses and spyware and get it installed just by a user visiting the site and bam, you've got an infestation of junk on your system.

Oh joy! - I thought it was all quite amusing until I read the above line.
