Pushkar (Hindi: पुष्कर), Rajasthan is famous for its Brahma Temple as well as the annual Pushkar Mela.

Pushkar situated 11 kms. to the North-West of Ajmer is a sacred town for the Hindus. The charm of this sleepy, lakeside settlement so captivated the great Indian poet, Kalidas, that it found a place in his classic, Abhigyan Sakuntalam. The Great Hindu epics of Mahabharat and Ramayana make references to this religious place regarded to be Adi Tiratha. Evidence points to its having existed during the fourth century B.C. lake in the inhospitable surroundings of a desert is no less than a miracle. Pushkar comes alive during the mela, but is visited during other times as well. Many Ghats run down to the Holy Lake where pilgrims are constantly bathing in the holy waters.

Hi,

Stunning region, stunning images and stunning technique!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Love the pictures and with a possibility of visiting Rajasthan in September they give me inspiration.
Thank you. Sept is actually a nice time. Oct onwards it starts to get a bit cold but nothing major for those who are used to "cold weather". Pushkar is nice but so is the other parts of Rajasthan. My favourite is Jaisalmer. I also like Jodhpur and of course Udaipur is stunning. Jaipur is the starting point and a good way to get a taste of things.
Thanks for posting.

All the best. Hope you can make it to RJ.

Ah, I love the place. Very nice shots - post more, especially people and people on the ghats.

First time I was there, I stayed at the Govt. Tourist hotel. In your final shot, it's the building directly to the right of the central lake shrine - the white place with the small doorway in the large flat white wall. The large central dome behind that was the ceiling of my hotel room. Walls were 18 inches thick, and nice and cool in the April heat.

Notice to anyone wanting to go there - you will be unable to find a drop of (legal) alcohol inside the town boundaries.

John posting a few more images below, you're right legally and officially you don't get alcohol and meat. However, I'm told you can even get drugs. The influx of tourists, the demand-and-supply balance and corruption put together. However, what you say is right and its advisable to follow that. One should also not walk with footwear on the ghat areas and temple areas.
