Ipad

Jobs is using the same failed closed hardware strategy he implemented in the 80s-90s.
Hear hear. This company's real expertise is located in the superficial. Unfortunately superficial is spot-on in today's low-attention-span market.
Or stick with your anemic netbook.
Anemic? Why anemic? Most netbooks/laptops allow a wide range of functions and facilities unavailable on the iPad. Absurd contention, fully in keeping with the fanboy mentality of Apple users. BTW I owned 2 Macs by 1988. When did you start using them?
As for Flash, .... is used almost entirely for advertising. Don't miss it now, will miss it less than zero when it is gone.
Sorry, you're simply advertising your own ignorance. For a single example - which is vital to me and innumerable others - Flash is still the only practicable way of delivering Virtual Tours (used widely in the real estate hotel and tourism industry websites). Yes I know about Java. As for QT as a delivery medium, like most other Apple applications it's a poisonous joke - and useless for this purpose.
Several people I know bought iPads early on. They are wonderful devices for doing what they were designed to do: consume data.
(and money! their primary function...)
I'd love to have one. But I will wait for the second generation, I'm not the first adopter type. However, I am smart enough to get the point.
Sensible enough. There will soon be lots of competitors for this overpriced toy anyway.>

More bogus ad homenim attacks on Apple customers? Haven't there been enough already?
There's always room for one more. ;)

Look, the iPad is cool, but it ain't perfect. The ad hominem retorts only serve to give some balance to the blind idolization of any thing Apple. And aren't we all seeking a balance in the universe? :D

Apple's Worst Security Breach: 114,000 iPad Owners Exposed:
One more bogus one, you mean.

The security breach was entirely AT&T, and a brute force attack at that. Someone noticed that you can find the email address associated with a given ICC ID (the serial number of a given SIM card), so they just ran a script for thousands of ICC IDs and obtained thousands of email addresses. Apple has nothing to do with the SIMs or the cellular data plan.

It's been fixed.

A less biased article:

Or compare that to 300USD which a Asus 1001P netbook, that's more than equal to a Ipad, costs.
Why? The iPad is not a netbook. Compare the iPad to other tablets, almost all of which cost more than the iPad. Some are even subsidized with a multi-year contract.

Well, if you insist on having a touchscreen you can get the T101H that's a convertible tablet for 360 USD. Still considerably cheaper than a iPad

I think the iPad has it place with the main drawback being price. Once that comes down people won't be so upset over the idea of a simple use computer. I was surprised at the size of the iPad. That must be why it is doing so well.

That's still a netbook. Just because it has a touch screen doesn't make it an iPad competitor, especially since Windows is not designed for touch.

Compare the iPad with the JooJoo, WePad, eeePad and other similar devices, as well as the now cancelled HP Slate. They're all more expensive than the iPad. Even the Dell Streak is more expensive, and it has a smaller 5" display.

Compact P&S cameras have longer zoom lenses and are cheaper than DSLRs (especially with an equivalent lens), but I don't think too many people will consider it a fair comparison.

No, they will be upset that the new one cost less than the first iPad - just like Apple did with the iPhone after 6 months they dropped the price $200 and pi$$ed people off. :D

effected is such a strong word
as are "worst security breach"

(I kindah like that; more power to Apple. Their client list reads like a society page : )
how many famous photographers on it?

It's a convertible tablet PC. Look it up if you want. You're right that Windows 7 in it's current form isn't that finger-friendly, but then again thank's to it being a convertible you'll also be able to use the trackpad, or install any of the multitude of tablet OS's out there. They can function exactly the same, so there's no reason at all not to compare them.

Well, I wouldn't call a netvertible a DSLR, that should be reserved for full computers. But granted, a netvertible could be seen as a high-end P&S, and the iPad could be a nice camera-phone. Now, I know a iPad can't compare to a netvertible, but because its price and the way Apple markets it the iPad brought it upon itself.

You're right.

The iPad sells like hotcakes. Windows-based Tablet PCs (what you call "netvertibles") have been a flop, despite a big push by Microsoft and a couple of years head start.

It really would be wrong to equate "huge success" to "big flop".

Well, there were some 40 million sold in 2009, so your right, you really shouldn't compare it to the iPad and it's couple million.

Not even remotely close.

According to IDC, only 121,000 tablets and about 1 million hybrids (touchscreen+keyboard) were sold in all of 2009.

The EeePad (WiFi only) prices announced at Computex (June 2010) are from US$399 to US$499 for 32G and 64G SSHD. (The EeePad has similar size/weight specs and battery time as the iPad but is a full touchpad Win 7 netbook computer. It also looks like it has a glossy screen, which may be a negative for me).

AFAIK, the prices for the iPad (WiFi only) 32G and 64G models are US$600 and US$700.

Did the iPad prices drop while I was away?

Apparently there's an EPad and an eeePad and neither one is shipping yet. I haven't seen pricing on the former, but the latter is expected to be about $500 with a contract. The EPad also is a sealed unit with an internal battery (according to the video). Where have I seen that before? :)

http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/04/asus-epad-like-the-eeepad-but-with-less-ecstasy/

Well, isn't this typical ASUS. Yet another Eee Pad, or this time an 'EPad' as the placard says...

http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/04/23/asus.now.targeting.eee.pad.at.apple/

Contacts for DigiTimes claimed the Eee Pad would cost roughly $479 to $510, but only after being bundled (and possibly subsidized) with 3G service.

As he spoke of a big push and a couple of years head-start I could only assume he meant netbooks, as convertibles have existed for more than ten years, and I'd say that Apples marketing of the iPad was bigger than the marketing of convertibles combined for ten years.
