I just want to say, that DT lenses work extremely well on my A850. The A850 switches automatically to APS-C mode, so you only have 12 mpix, but the overall quality of the pics is much better than compared to my A200. So thos that have a bunch of DT lenses, upgrade to a FF is worth it anyway...

But the point was that you don't have to shelve any DT lenses you already have. You can get better results with them, and also buy some top FF glass.

Using DT lenses on an a850/900 is more like driving a Mercedes AMD around the Hamptons.

nice to have, but a waste of the a850 in practice

Thank you very much. Thats exactly what i have been asking myself. Some APS-C Lenses are interesting for me, but i had the fear that they might not work too well.

And this behavior of A850/900 is extremely stupid.
I agree. Let the user decide the crop.
Provide the option (FF always - Auto - APSC always) like Nikon did.

FWIW, some aftermarket APS-C lenses are not detected as APS-C and so the user can select the crop him/herself.

I agree with the OP. It's a good option for those wanting to upgrade, but not being able to afford a FF lens at the same time as the body. After 5 months, I still primarily use my 16-80 on the a850, and the results are just as good as I was getting from my a700. I do have a couple of full frame lenses whose focal lengths are less useful on a daily basis, but for most shots I do everyday, I'm happy with the 16-80 for now. The performance has convinced me to simply save for the 24-70CZ rather than spending money on a 28-75 (Tamron or Sony) as a stop gap. There are also several situations where the small picture size is preferred.
