Re: Adobe releases Camera Raw 6.1 for Photoshop CS5

Thanks to a very serviceminded employee of Adobe the problem was solved.

I got a few new files to exchange for the old ones and everything now works as expected.

According to writings at Adobe forum others have gotten the same solution to their problems.

All well in the end.

Hi Ralf,

Would appreciate it if you could expand a little on the final solution to your issue and perhaps let me know what files were replaced. I am still having issues with the update install on my mac despite having done the following:

1. Tried installing from two different administrator accounts, including a completely new one.
2. Installed and uninstalled the Photoshop CS5 software twice.

3. Downloaded the updates from both the help menu in Photoshop and directly from the adobe.com website.
4. Verified that my hard drive and disk permissions are OK in disk utility

5. Contacted Adobe support and spent over 90 minutes on the phone with a support representative. The representative basically just repeated what I had already done and suggested that I reinstall the PS CS5 software (now already done twice).

I do have older copies of Photoshop on my computer (Photoshop 7 and Photoshop CS2) When I talked to the Adobe support rep he indicated that this should not prevent me from installing updates to CS5. I also initially had a trial version of CS5 installed which I successfully uninstalled prior to installing the full paid for version (wondering if possibly the updater is seeing my full version as a trial???)

Since I´m not on Mac I can´t comment on your problems. Have you looked at the Adobe camera raw forum? There are multiple Mac users that are having installation problems and maybe you can check for their solutions.

For me some new files for the PDapp folder solved the issue, I don´t have a clue as to what causes problems on Mac, it might be something else.

I tried the Adobe CS5 Cleaner tool but the error message I received seem to indicate that it only works if you have a complete Creative Suite installed.
Thanks for the tip anyway!

I am phoning Adobe support again on Monday - I'll let everyone know what happens.

One of my suspicions is that there is an Adobe log file somewhere on my computer that's telling the updater that my software is a trial version rather than the one I purchased ( I initially installed the trial version then uninstalled it prior to installing the version I paid for)

Since I have no idea how to set up my lens, where (if you can) do you download
the file to fit your lens?

Installing Updates ( recent ones : Bridge , Photoshop CS5 & camera RAW ) have given Photoshop CS5 users a headache . None of these install smoothly as was the case in previous versions CS4, CS3, CS etc.

Under normal circumstances : Double Click & follow the instructions (as advised by Adobe ) does not work. It gives the message “…. Cannot be installed as another instance is running… please close it & try again “ . Try as you may ( Task manager, third party programs to identify the mysterious ‘another instance running ‘ fails. Some users have also gone to the extent of uninstalling & re installing Photoshop CS5 --- No success. While others have scoured all the local discs of their computer searching for files ( C > Programs > Adobe > Photoshop CS5 Folders or C > Programs > Common Files Folders > Adobe etc., some have in desperation formatted their computers & Re installed Photoshop CS5, even then the updater gives the same damn message. There is ranting & cursing in all the photoshop forums across the globe. Some have cursed Adobe & demanded their money back & praised the illegal torrent sites.

However in one of the forums I have come across a procedure which helped me to install the updates smoothly. I forgot which forum it was as well as the name of the submitter. But, God bless him as he has brought relief to millions of Photoshop Lovers. All credit goes to him.

I tried it on my machine it worked like a charm ( WinXP SP3 – 32 Bit) , No reason why it should not be a success on other windows platforms :

However before installing the updates, turn off all Antivirus, Spyware & any third party Firewall programs on your computer and as always restart your computer even if the updater does not tell you to do so.

Follow the steps :

1) Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel (The Control Panel Opens)

2) Double Click on Administrative Tools Icon. ( Administrative Tools Folder Opens)
3) Double Click on Services Icon ( The Services Panel Opens).

4) On the Right side of the Services Panel is a list of services available for the computer, arranged in alphabetical order.

5) Scroll down to the service “Work Station” (Probably the second last of the list).
6) Right Click it and “Start” the service.
7) Now install your updates. They will install like a charm !

Am I glad I'm still on XP. Some people just have to have the latest, to their cost. Vista was a disaster and 7 doesn't sound like much fun either. Whilst you suffer Microsoft gets richer.

Windows 7 is solid. Microsoft did right by w7.
BUT it doesn´t work for too many to be an irrelevant issue.

It works fine on my XP comp but not on my Vista comp.

On the Adobe user forum you can see that others have the same problem, both on Mac and Win machines, and that rebooting or even re-installing CS5 doesn´t solve the problem.

For some killing certain running processes help, but for others this isn´t the issue and the problem continues.

With CS4 I never had this problem.
