This should be a major update; it unleashes one of the features that made updating to CS5 seem worthwhile.
TOO BAD THEN, that installing the update doesn´t work!

Since the 6.1 RC update didn´t install on many computers (Windows and Mac) one had hopes that the final release would; however it doesn´t.

I´m on this Vista 32 bit machine and the update won´t run. Error message says another instance of Updater is running, which is not the case.
Several others have the same problem.

ADOBE NEEDS TO FIX THIS, QUICKLY.

CS5, Win 7 64 bit. All good.

BUT it doesn´t work for too many to be an irrelevant issue.

It works fine on my XP comp but not on my Vista comp.

On the Adobe user forum you can see that others have the same problem, both on Mac and Win machines, and that rebooting or even re-installing CS5 doesn´t solve the problem.

For some killing certain running processes help, but for others this isn´t the issue and the problem continues.

With CS4 I never had this problem.

Am I glad I'm still on XP. Some people just have to have the latest, to their cost. Vista was a disaster and 7 doesn't sound like much fun either. Whilst you suffer Microsoft gets richer.

Does Cameron look like Postman Pat or what?

CS5 with ACR 6.1 installed yesterday on the PC I bought last month works fine though :)

MS bashing is so 00's :)

How do you get the OP to start it's subject line with Re: ? This should only happen from a second post onwards!

Because the OP was posted via the "Post comment"-link in the frontpage news item named "Adobe releases Camera Raw 6.1 for Photoshop CS5". Sort of confusing, and you would think they could integrate the comments more logically.

The site I write for has a locked forum section for these kinds of discussions, and the relevant thread is included beneath the relevant article. Locked, as in only the publishing system can create new threads.

Then again - this is not a news site first and foremost, and they have been making great progress in other areas, so this little idiosyncracy is easy to forgive :-)

Other than the new cameras supported in the 6.1 raw, is there any other
need to update it?

ACR 6.1 won't update on Mac OS 10.6.3. I spent 90 minutes on the telephone with an Adobe Support rep who basically retried everything that I told him I had already tried - downloading from both the help menu in CS5 and directly from the adobe website. Also tried downloading in different accounts, reboots and shutdowns, quitting Time Machine (backup software), running diagnostics, etc. Adobe rep suggested reinstalling CS5 but it looks like others have tried this with no success. What a waste of time...

I had problems with CS4 and Snow Leaopard. You couldn't Save As. I got rid of SL and ACR 6.1 loaded fine as i needed it for my D7's RAW files.

Downloaded just fine on my Vista 32 bit system. One quirk though is that you have to manually close Bridge and PS before ACR will download. This is particularly odd since you are notified of the update when you open these programs. Why an automatic closure (with warning) isn't a part of the installation procedure says volumes about Adobe.

The problem isn´t downloading per se; you can d/l directly from Adobe.

But it still refuses to install, claiming there´s another instance of Updater running - as if that should matter when the files are already on your computer...

Check your start menu. Chances are Bridge is loading on start up. Use msconfig, look under the start up tab and uncheck anything with bridge or PS. Frankly, I have everything unchecked in my start up except for virus and backup programs.

Ok, here is solution from Adobe support forum.

"Try to remove the "1.0" folder on Windows from:

XP: :\Documents and Settings\l\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\AAMUpdater

Vista and WIn7: :\Users\\AppData\Local\Adobe\AAMUpdater"

And it's work for me. (win7 x64)
