Hello everyone,

I've just done a really stupid thing - formatted the wrong SDHC card in the E-PL1... one which had important images for my daughter leaving school.

Is there any way the data could be recovered? any utility software anyone can recommend which may save my bacon?

Thanks in desperation :(

Yes don't panic. Important - take the card out of the camera now and put it so it isn't used before trying to recover the images. If you write a photo to the card it will make things harder.

There are many utilities to extract the files. Lexar and Sandisk cards come with software or acceess codes to run thier own software.

If you don't have one of those cards try the TUCOWS web site for freeware.

Remember don't panic.

let me know if you need any more help.

Regards,
Andy

Hmm, odd. I've even had it recover AVCHD files. Maybe it has a problem if two files have the same name except for the extension? Weird.

Lock the card using the little slider (assume the SDHC has one, the SD does).

If you can make a disk image of the card, you may be able to work with that to reduce the risk of overwriting the card

I used a StellarPhoenix product several years ago for a worse problem (software glitch) with a photo hard drive. But some lessor product should do the job.

Generally speaking, if you have the card attached to your computer via a reader, say a USB reader, you shouldn't need to use SD card recover software.

You should be able to use any software/file recovery programs out there (as long as those software has facility to recover from removable media). This way, it wouldn't have to know what a raw file is or a jpg file since everything is the same...a file.

Sorry, I can't remember what software you can use at the moment but definitely there are software that will do it. Luckily you only formated the card and not overwrote it so chances are fairly high you will be able to recover most if not all files.

Good luck.

Brian, if you need a program that rescues whatever can be rescued, Data Rescue 3 is your friend. It also has a "learning" function: if you want it to recover file types it doesn't know, you feed it some, it gets them down and finds them on the formatted card.

It's a paid program, tho.

Best of luck!
