Delayed Dell Shipment (deja vu?)

This morning I checked my f717 order at Dell and the system indicated:

Your item is being processed and should ship by the estimated ship date
Pending 10/11/2002.

I just checked it again and the system now indicated:

Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order.
Delayed 10/11/2002

Anybody else who ordered it from Dell seeing the same thing? I am not trying to "stir a hornets nest up," I just really want to know if anyone else is seeing the same thing. Thank goodness I still haven't given up my f707.

Guess it's good they didnt put a early ship date. Go ahead and call Dell. The guy I talked to said I could call him daily if I wanted LOL. Not sure what he could tell me....

Once upon a time before I had my 707 (now 717) I ordered an S75 from Dell. After that experience I will NEVER order anything from Dell again.

I called to cancel my order after it was delayed twice. i was told it would be cancelled. Lo and behold a few days later the camera arrived on doorstep. I called Dell and was told by them to refuse shipment and it would go back to their wharehouse and my account would be credited (I had a line of credit with them - though not anymore!). So I refused shipment.

They continued to bill me each month for eight months, even though the had the camera. I called at least two dozen times and was told each time it would be resolved. Then I would get another bill. Apparantly their customer service and their financial services don't even use the same computer system so when the camera arrived in their wharehouse and Dell custoemr service showed they recvd it, Dell Financial had no record of it. It literally came to threatening lawsuits for harrassment before I got anywhere.

I like Dell computers but I was SO mistreated by so many Dell reps that I will never buy from them again.

Oh and if you are ever told to refuse a Dell shipment you dont want, DONT!!!!! I guess the whole problem started because unlikeI was told, you need to call and get a return label from Dell. I was told to refuse and thats why it got all boogered up. Then the lack of customer service and common sense on Dell's side just made it get worse and worse and worse.

I'm sorry for those of you that ordered from Dell.

I normally order from Dell, but this time I tried Goodguys.com and it paid off. I ordered a 717 Saturday at 4pm, and got it Tuesday at 11:30am.

Got it for $900 even - free shipping and no sales tax.

Beware when buying with Dell though, because if you buy it through the Small Business site to save even more money (as sometimes the discounts are bigger) you will definitely pay sales tax for your own State. Make sure you go via Home & Home office. Never sales tax this way.

Mine says delayed - 10/11/2002

I read this as : It won't ship until 10/11, so the shipment is being held (delayed) until then..

When my 10/11 date is changed... then i will worry

Dell does charge sales tax from their Home & Home Office web site but only in a few states - certainly not all. I guess its just those states are where they have a physical presence.

Yeah I wouldent worry just yet.. I bought from dell last year and went till christmas.. but I get that all the time with dell with the delay and they usually ship out within a week or a few days. Sometimes you will get it even before they update the status. Dont worry yet.. I dont think your going to see what everyone saw last year.. Lets not forget , last year when we all waited for dell , sony was not shipping any f707's because of the BFS problem and there was a hold on 707's (recalled) . Also there seems to be many 717 around this year.. Everyone has them.. So dont worry yet.

In the Dell system, the item is out of stock... we all know that.

What you might NOT have known..... is that the item is not even on EPA... estemated time of arrival and, that aint good !!

My guess is that you'll get your Delll shipment some time anywhere between two weeks and a month from 10/15

Sorry for the bad news but, a friend of mine who works there KNOWS what he's talking abougt and, that's about it. Also note, the item is on backorder from the vendor, Sony. So, who knows who Sony is going to favor in processing the backorders. Maybe favor is not a good wod to use here..... who will get highest priority I mean.

Life's to short (at least at my age!)

Ording from Dell is not worth the aggravation, heart ache, high blood preasure and loss of sleep regardless of the deal. Just think about it, every day your on there site or on the phone several times to check the status which usually means nothing anyway. They are for the most part clueless.

The number 1 computer company in sales and they seem to have no idea of what they or there vendors (shippers) have or when they will get it.

My experences were all bad. I have found that I can get the same item from some other (reputable) place for the same price or less (less aggravation at least) if I just look around or wait a while.

Dell has gotten to big and for the most part they just don't care. Dell and service are 2 words that don't belong in the same sentence.
Enough ranting about dell for now.

Just my opinion of course.

I wouldn't worry until that day passes and if it still wasn't shipped. I ordered mine today and was told it will ship on 10/15. I went to the website and it says delayed till 10/14, that is still before my ship date. Due to this web site they have had more orders than they ever thought they would. This goes to show how the internet can spread a good deal quickly.

The salesman said that the camera would ship by 10/12 and the delay date is 10/11. I'm wondering if they all say that until they ship. If it is delayed until 10/11 then it really isn't a problem... we shall see. I'm not in a hurry. Ann

Same here, after over two months, one unsolicitated cancellation (by them!) of my order, reorder, five delays and many different delivery dates quoted by clueless salespeople!

And don't try and order via telephone with them. Over in the Canon DLSR forum, people ordered the D60 with the promise of using a 10% off special at the end of Aug. When the camera finally shipped weeks later they were billed FULL price and all of the sales reps played dumb and claimed there was no such special. Dell offers 10% off deals all the time!

I had to pay something like $15 sales tax on a $1400 order a few months ago. I assumed they charged me sales tax on only an item (like maybe the extended warranty that is buried in the price).

The two times I've ordered from them for PCs, they've been very good.

I suspect their main problems are for accessories. Someone mentioned they just pass accessory orders to third parties, and that would explain the main complaints.

I had similar problems with gateway's accessories.
