Well said. I think that there have been some dramatic announcements of individuals leaving the forum who are simply looking for sort of personal affirmation ("oh please, don't go....). Yes, there can be jerks in this forum, but as we all know in dealing with life experience, there are jerks everywhere.

Well, surprisingly I kind of agree with you, particularly on the attention seeking point. However as a newcomer to this forum ( from Nikon and Canon) I do think there is a lack of real substance to the majority of posts. I have a Pentax K-M which I love, it is the best I could afford but have already been told on this forum it is inferior. sums it up really.
Well, I have a K-m; I don't much care if people say there are better cameras; I couldn't afford them then or now. It suited me well - for price and size - and it works just fine.

You make a good point - though an attempt at giving some unhappy boys and girls a second chance was a good exercise; most of the folks that were there needed to be. I've noticed a good number of them banned in the last few months as well - which tells me the mods are a bit more watchful over the herd here than they've been in the past.

The quickest way to get rid of the unsavory is to ignore them - they get intensely angry, then either get banned or forgotten.

Hope you are well bud - glad to see you've not been scared off ;)

1. Use the ignore feature liberally. I often put the easy-to-spot troller on ignore at first sight - if he is insulting someone else or being a general whiner, I won't wait until he pops in on one of my posts, just put said individual on ignore. If a person is spamming or repeating the same old thing (think of the anti-brand folks or even the robot pro-brand folks), and you don't want to hear it, put them on ignore. One could even go as far as putting folks on ignore whose pictures they don't like - it saves you the time of an accidental click next time. I skip every post from ignored posters - it really eliminates side chatter from known offenders and tailors the forum to who I want to hear from and when.
I thought you emptied out your "ignore list" to give the second decade of the 21st century a good start. Me? I dare not give the lunatic fringe a platform from which they can rant and rave. My ignore list grows slowly, but as a result, this forum is a bright, sunny place for me.

Your quoted advice still stands........do yourself a favor; don't reduce the list to zero next year.

I don't think anybody is trying to win anything here IMO! There have been several nasty incidents/insulting commentaries, some of which have led to a banning and removal of posts, so I think we are just trying to regroup. There is no win or lose here...just us Pentaxians.
Cheers

No problem my friend!

The trouble is, as Dar constantly reminds me, I am often too verbose and people have been known to nod off while reading my stuff! My bad really!

Best regards Roger

Leo, although there are some would like to see me say adios (and I must admit for good reason) I'm not going anywhere until Pentax puts that damn flux capacitor on a camera.

There may be some mi amigo, but I am not one of them who wishes that! Glad to hear you are staying.

Thanks Leo. It was your graciousness towards me when I was not being very nice ( to say the least) that made me see the light. This forum needs far more folks like yourself. We are all better off if we follow your lead.

wise words my man. I've said it before but I have to repeat it--you strike me as a real gentleman in the best sense of the word.

We should all take your advice. Heated discussion is fine and opinions can be strong, but personal attacks and insults are out of line.

We've all heard the expression "dance like no one is watching". How about a new one, "type like your Mom is watching". :)

I keep telling you, the flux capacitor is old hat.

Unless Pentax include a 'Swanson Valve' on the K-7's replacement they are doomed to fail! ;)

Hi Leo!
There are many who are either leaving or thinking about leaving because of the rancor and negativity of the few. Why?
Really?
To me it seems most are leaving because of Nikon.

Sure, we had some leaving because they felt their posts weren't met with the reception they deserved - but is that a noteworthy proportion?
Or maybe I have missed something...

Cheers
Jens

Hi Jens!

I guess the proportion is not that big, but the negative quality of the commentaries is growing. The last couple of insults that were cut out and the others written by the person who was banned were very heavy duty and demoralizing to read. So what I was getting at was not just the leaving of the forum physically but people withdrawing in disgust for long periods of time or just not going anywhere...just not being here in any active kind of way. Also we don't know what lurkers who were considering our forum were driven off in the face of the nastiness of a few.

Perhaps I am getting naive in my dotage, but that kind of stuff seems more destructive than it has been to this point. Like nitroglycerin, small in volume but able to destroy much!

But you are right too, many are leaving to Nikon...no problem with that. Others have done that before and some have returned to Pentax or like Lance use both and remain here.

Best regards Jens

I must indeed have missed that, sorry.

That said, some current things here have taught me that different people miss different stuff...

All the best

Hmmm! I think you have misunderstood...Lance is not leaving the forum, so there was no farewell thread from him! And this is a different thread and I am not leaving! I am confused about your post...elucidate please! ;-) Je ne comprends pas Sorin! S'il vous plaît préciser.

Cheers
Leo
