Its taken me a while but here a few shots from my trip to Angkor Wat in Feb this year. I'd like to think they're a bit more than holiday snaps and would love any comments etc. Would be a good excuse to go back and try again ;)

K10D DA 16-45 F4 1/15s f/8.0 at 40.0mm iso100

Was a very early start. 4.45am. Walked in by torch light and got our spots not really knowing what or quite where we were, then this appears....

K10D FA 50F1.4 1/400s f/8.0 at 50.0mm iso320
A bit later on in the morning. Just a touch of PP to get the effect I liked :)

K10D DA 16-45 F4 1/200s f/8.0 at 16.0mm iso125

The temple complex's are immense and surrounded by huge moats and their stone guardians.

K10D DA 16-45 F4 1/25s f/9.0 at 45.0mm iso200
All that temple gazing is tough work :)

K10D DA 16-45 F4 1/50s f/5.0 at 45.0mm iso400

The girls on my trip were freaking out at how close I got to this wee fellow. I figured seeing the guide was watching what I was doing and not stopping me I was pretty safe. A dead tourist can't tip very well can he :D

If you liked those, there are some more here. Be warned, there are some happy snappy holiday shots in there too :p

No, a dead tourist can't tip, but his earthly possessions, including wallet and camera gear, become easy prey for crooked guides. It was indeed a risk.

Very nice images! Congratulations.

Thanks for your coments Zaldidun.

Guide was an Intrepid Tours guide plus the compulsary government supplied guide so pretty safe there. Not just a random one offering his services. I'm certainly more cautious when travelling by my self :)

Hey Gazza,

Greta to finally see some of the images from your recent trek.

Great photos, mate. Particularly like the sunset images and the guy sleeping in the window. Noce stuff!

I don't think the snake would have bitten you through the lens, though. ;-)

AH my friend, at last your pictures of that magical place Angkor Wat! Your sunset is beautiful and I really enjoyed all the shots but the snake(looks like a green boomslang, poisonous but not too aggressive) all curled up and daring you to come closer, is my favourite.

This is a place along with Vietnam, that I would like to make it too, but my radiator doesn't handle heat/humidity too well anymore so I will have to rely on vicarious experience like this! Thanks for the trip mate!

Very best regards
Leo

Who cares about temples when you have a beautiful Trimeresurus like that :P
You knew it was a venomous snake, right?

That's a great sunset over Angkor Wat.

I was there in late January and I still haven't posted pictures... soon...

Thanks Lance. Just hadn't really felt like putting any up with all the BS flying around this place recently :)

Thanks for the comments Lance. You always get a bit rushed in a group. I was last on the bus quite a few times :)
I don't think the snake would have bitten you through the lens, though. ;-)
Truth be told, I was holding the camera at arms length from memory ;)

Thanks Leo :) Those were the sunrise by the way ;) The sunset wasn't that interesting apart from the fact I was sitting in a Temple at Angkor Wat drinking an Angkor beer :)

I'm no fan of the heat either but these places are worth the effort if your body can stand it. I hope to go to Vietnam properly in the next year or so

I had no idea :) I come from somewhere with absolutely no snakes unless its stuffed and in a museum.

Lovely sunrise shots, great colors. I was there in 2003 shooting film (ZX-5) and would love to go back.
Thanks Doug. Was worth the early wake up call :) Silly thing was, despite all being absolutely knackered, we all went out on the town that night and got home about 3.30am.

Beautiful gallery and thanks for sharing these magnificent images. For once I am not looking at hi ISO's , FF's and "ultra fast" AF. You captured the scenes very well.

Yes, much more than ordinary travel snaps. Good work.

My guess is the snake is an asian native Big-eyed Pitviper, Cryptelytrops macrops.

I've still wear one of my favorite souveniers from anywhere, the Angkor Beer T-shirt with the logo "My Country, My Beer" - priceless! And, not bad beer at that.

One of my fav t-shirts from there was the "same same but different" one. They actually had t-shirts that fitted my none too delicate frame.

Thats me on the right :)

Thanks for your kind comments squareEye. Nice to know others think they're more than just happy snappies :)

Probably just as well I didn't know what it was at the time. Was trying to think of snake names at the time and they had things like brown or black in the name so lulled my self into a false sense of security :D

Thanks so much for the kind comments Rene. I all ready know the high iso of my K10D isn't a patch on my old DS but then again my K10D doesn't pack a sad when it get wet ;)

Full frame would be nice but I don't have the required funds to switch at this stage and most of the stuff I shoot isn't ultra fast. My horse suits the course pretty well really. If I had 10K spare, maybe a Nikon system, but I don't so I haven't :)
