canon lens with two zooms

It sounds strange to me but a freind phoned me about this new lens he bought, says it has azoom on each side of the lens. is there suchb a lens.

the only one in existance is the one he bought
 
perhaps the second "zoom" is focus adjustment.

It does sound strange. I'd call him back and get more detailed info.
 
I have heard of lenses that have two (or more?) focal length settings but don't zoom. Can't remember who makes (made) them. Perhaps some ancient rangefinder film camera.
 
I seem to recall that either Leica or Zeiss had a lens that had 3 specific focal lengths. It was not a zoom.
I originally was going to write Leica but not being sure I changed my wording. I think it was a Leica. Many older Canon rangefinder cameras were similar to Leica's. Perhaps one had this design as well.

As someone mentioned, there are macro lenses with one control for closeups and another for "normal" to infinity.

But I do not think these are current models.
