I am teaching my 3-year old basic photography. Right now she carries a Gitzo G0011 with a Giotto ballhead which works fine on even surfaces but is useless with any vegetation. The travel tripods are simply too long making it hard for her to balance herself while walking. Does anyone know of a 3-section table-top tripod, preferably carbon fiber, that folds down to 12-inches or less?

Thanks in advance

Kiet, VERY cute daugther that you have there ;)

I have a 3 year old son, who funny enough, we were at my older son's football practice tonight and I had my 40D as usual, and my son asked to take pictures, I had my monopod and let him (with my help of course) take pictures, he was using the viewfinder, should have seen the smile on his face ;)

Your daugther look VERY proud on these pictures ! I also have a daugther, 4 year old, they're my treasures !

As for the tripod, I couldn't find anything shorter than 14" !?

That is so sweet, I will have a smile all day now!

Many thanks for sharing.

Love that last shot. She looks so proud. Nice of you to let her set it up all by herself. It looks so delicately poised too. Even precariously poised. lol.

Thanks for the advice and kind words. The Velbon is not available in the US but I will look for one on ebay.

For those who have kids, I found it's much better to engage them than to tell them not to touch anything every 10 seconds. Like most kids my daughter wants to do everything that I do so I got her involved with the camera and she really loves it. I have no delusion that she will be the next Ruth Bernhard but for now outings are so much more fun for both of us.

Here's a few parting shots of her at work.
