Been a bit out of practice lately so I, went for a photoshoot yesterday around Sydney's South Head to photograph around the South Head Lighthouse and whilst there the weather took a turn for the worse with an impending storm approaching. Made for good light for photography and hopefully some reasonable pics. I hope you like them.

Looking west toward Sydney City in the distance.

Pentax K-7 + DA14 f2.8 @ f11, 1/20sec, ISO200, SR, ND grad.

Pentax K-7 + DA14 f2.8 @ f11, 1/30sec, ISO200, SR, ND grad.

The old Lighthouse keepers hut:

K-7 + DA15 f4 Limited @ f11, 1/125sec, ISO 200, SR.

The Lighthouse looking north to North Head over the Harbour entrance:

K-7 + DA14 f2.8 @ f14, 1/30sec, ISO200, ND grad, SR.

K-7 + DA14 f2.8 @ f14, 1/20sec, ISO200, ND grad, SR.

Whilst I was there, I came across a Kookaburra and he stayed there long enough for me to get some pics:

K-7 + DA*300 f4 @ f5.6, 1/125sec ISO400 SR.

Great captures, Lance. I saw that storm from the CBD also, and knew it would make some good landscape in Sydney! Alas I was stuck in an office :=((
Thank you for the kind words, Adam. Well shall have to get together for a photoshoot sometime. :-)

Lance

i noticed the differences in the DA 14 and DA 15. Could you elucidate on their pros and cons?
The IQ of the DA15 is amazing as shown most admirably by Moving Comforts many examples.

The reason I used the DA14 in many of these shots was due to the ND grads being able to be used.

Both lenses give excellent results, but over all IQ would probably go to the DA15. I prefer the DA15 due to it's size and weight, but sometimes the extra width and f2.8 of the DA14 can be handy as is the fact I can use the ND grads as stated above.

I have yet to work out a way to use the ND grad filter holder system on the DA15 without causing vignetting. I need to be able to mount the adaptor ring that holds the filter holder onto the lens but I cannot mount the adaptor ring onto the lens directly due to the fact that the lens hood protrudes past the lens barrel even when retracted. I am hoping to try a 49mm to 52mm step up ring so that I can then mount the adaptor ring to the step up filter ring and then mount the filter holder, only if the step up ring does not foul on the lens hood. Failing this, I do not know what to do, but I will try anything in order to use the DA15 with ND grads.

.

This first one has 'Storm Light' nicely captured, sublimely wonderful. The little yellow building seems to be the perfect color to reflect that, good eye.

Looks like you managed to hold on to the right end mate :)

I like the city scapes most. Just think how much better they'd be with the D700 :D

Not sure I'm going to make it to Aussie this year or not but will certainly let you know if I'm coming. Another Bronte storm would be fun I think.

LOL. Come on, I'm not that far out of practice! ;-)

Well, I only want them to be better from the D700 so as I don't think that I have wasted my money, which may actually be the case! ;-)

It would be great if you can make it. :-)

Now this I can't necessarily arrange! ;-)

I have ND grads but have not used them for digital yet, I see your work here and it gets me thinking. More subtle effect then one usually see from landscape shots using this technique. Nice! Big views! Interesting to see images with the DA15 and the DA14 side by side too.

Thanks for posting Lance

Great shots Lance, I'd like to purchase the old lighthouse and 2000sq m, if I send you a cheque for 200 Gs could you acquire it for me - tell em it's my final offer!

I forgot that you guys don't usually see grey skies! ;)

We get very worried when the sky turns blue and that bright light appears, sometimes young children (who may have never seen such a thing) cry and think the world is ending! :D ;)

I rarley leave the ND grads at home. A must have in our harsh lighting.

Thank you for the nice comments, Brent. :-)
