Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to set my 50D on al servo and to recompose the shot. I do a lot of wildlife photography and when on one shot (in order to recompose) the animal suddenly starts to run. Then there is no time to switch to al servo. Could someone please give me advice on what to do.

Regards

maybe try the custome settings mode (mode dial c1 or c2) I just started using one of those.

Darkness is the monster and your shutter is your sword, aperture your shield and iso your armor. Strike fast with your sword and defend well with your shield and hope your armor holds up.

1. Leave it on AI Servo
2. Switch your AF to the AF-ON or * button

Then.....

For tracking- hold down the AF button. For still subjects- bump it to achieve focus, then release. You're free to recompose at this point with the AF inactive.

On page 181 of the manual read about C-FN IV-1.

You switch focus to the AF-on button. This way you can acquire focus in AI-Servo, let go of the button, recompose, and hit the shutter without making the camera refocus.

Here's a write-up by Canon on that:

That's the best way to do it. Many, myself included, set the camera in AI servo with back AF button all the time.
1. Leave it on AI Servo
2. Switch your AF to the AF-ON or * button

Then.....

For tracking- hold down the AF button. For still subjects- bump it to achieve focus, then release. You're free to recompose at this point with the AF inactive.

Yep. Great method. I'm in that mode pretty much 100% of the time.
