Thanks Wade. The wasps are a bit sluggish at the moment here because the weather has turned cold. This wasp was feeding from our blue bird feeder bowl, licking up the remains of the sugar. When they're feeding you can get right up close to them. These ones were feeding from some cooked chicken I put out for them:
Insects are easiest to photograph when they're feeding, preening or mating.
I've never been stung by a bee or wasp while photographing them, although I've had a few land on me. Never try to swat them away, that's a sign of aggression and they will probably attack. Just gently brush them away, if you've got the nerve!
