I was just looking around this forum and found the Black & White Challenge. There sure are a lot of great pictures on there. I was wondering, do you all have "challenges" like this on a regular basis. It is always great finding a place where there is a sense of community.

Jeff

Jeff - we start a new one every 2 weeks. The topic starts on a friday and ends on monday week (10days later) with 4 days to vote. The winner of the challenge gets to pick the topic of the challenge after the next one. It's getting really competitive in there!

Hi Jeff,
We have started it recently and this is our 4th Challenge.
We run one every 2 weeks... and so far it is going very well!

You can go to the home page for the NTF Challenge on the NTF Members site and you will find the links to all the threads (Submit, Chat, Voting, Results, Out takes) for Challenge 1, 2 and 3. By going there you will find them all in one easy to find location.

Hope you can join in.

Yours sincerely,
Michael Offe,
South Australia.

Hi,
Do you D100 owners hang out here or the Nkon SLR forum the most?

If you all hang out here the most, maybe we could re-look at includeing D100 owners...

But if you prefer the SLR forum maybe you could start your own Challenge (just cpoy what we do - now that we have almost worked it out it should be easier for you to start one).

I think the reason that this was kept as Coolpix Challenge, is that the SLRs and their users have some advantages and they also use different equipment etc from Coolpix users.

Let us know what you think.

Yours sincerely,
Michael Offe,

Sorry... where is the All Nikon Challenge?

Very little info over there. Why not to buy, why not to upgrade. Sometimes there are helpful folks and I do post there but I always post my images here.

Thank for the extra info.

I will ask Dave and Sid what they think... any one else have any ideas?

Thanks.

Michael Offe.

Why not? I think that photography is 10% camera & material, 40% luck :) and 50% creativity (more or less). John Brain with his little Coolpix 775 has incredible entries all the time as we can see in the past Challenges.

The Nikon SLR people tend to be more experienced people I think, so more entries and more quality to learn for us, poor Coolpix users :)

Was this ever decided upon?

I am thinking of buying a D100 so I'm wondering if I'd be able to use it in the challenges.

You do get useful info in there every now and then, I don't read it anywhere near as much as this forum though. But there seem to be even more angry people in there than the Nikon forum. Maybe the more we pay for our equipment the more more defensive and angry we get ... i certainly hope that doesn't prove true.

Funny to see the 5700 cop a bashing in there for being a toy though (i did a search for opinions b4 buying in both forums). Horses for courses i say.

BTW stick around (original poster) in here, most topics are universal and I'm sure you can gain/help much as well as enjoy your time. (dont know about the challenge tho.... that d100 might just be a banned substance. Then again... that 775 that was mentioned! ;) )

Coool...Thanks for that info Mick. My moniker comes from the name of a fishing camp my wifes family had in Ontario near Espanola. They built it from scratch back in the late 1940's and operated it through the late 60's. It was Eightlake Lodge.
Regards,
Gene
There is a flyfishing shop in Missoula Montana with that name. It
is a fine shop...

I just the purchased a D100 yesterday so I suppose I will be kind of sitting on the fence line now too. It may be kind of tough trying to keep up to date in two separate forums, but a I think I prefer the regular (this) Nikon forum. I'm definitely keeping my CP5000 as it is a very capable little camera. Besides, it is more fun hanging out with folks who take pictures because they enjoy photography rather than with people who take pictures because that's how they make their livings.

I'm really not sure I've got an opinion on this one way or the other. But there seems to be lot's of folks heading to the D100. So it might be something that needs to be talked about as a group so we can get a feel for what everyone thinks

Hi Thomas, as Doug mentioned the way the rules were originally
written the challenge criteria was that the challenge was intended
for Coolpix camera users only..

Either way works for me. The D100 may lead to potential for unfair advantage. I don't really feel too strongly on whether it is included or not though, because I am keeping my coolpix 5000 anyway. Well, as I give it more thought, I think that maybethe challenge should just stay in the coolpix family; but that's just me talking.
