Sony NEX3/5 Official Specs and Screens

OMG SO TINY !

OMG WHAT IS THIS ! XD i don't even want to imagine the size of the 18-200+hood

The lens is about the same size as the 17mm pancake from Olympus (Panasonic 20mm pancake is a little bigger)

Keep in mind that olympus lens extend a lot during use and Panasonic Zoom is even bigger ! the reason why lens look huge because sony nex body is so tiny

Reminds me of my first digicam (company bought) the f303 (something like a grand or 1300-wow). That cam took amazing images at the time...interesting development vs mft....asp-c sensor surprised me..may have great results. I hope summer doesn't mean late august, I want to see the real reviews!

I thought the NEX5 is very compact, I was expecting something larger than the Panasonic GF1, especially with an APS-C sized sensor. The build quality of the lenses looks impressive, and built like a tank... even though there's too much Sony silver for my tastes.

The ultra wider angle converter for the 16mm lens (there is 2 adapters, normal ULTRA wide angle and Fish eye adapter)

but I am sure some of our 'top' posters will start the fighting immediately. Even tho no one has actually seen or used the cameras...heheh.

Time for many of us sensible people to ignore this forum until things settle down.
Good ol' Russ ... always eager to dive in, stir up the pot, then jump out and claim the high road ...
Yes but he is 'sensible' , does that mean some of his senses are still working ? :)

I can't see anywhere what format the new E lenses are - APS-C or FF size ? This is relevant if a mirrorless FF is coming later this year to replace the defunct A900.

I am kind of liking this. Glad I held off the 4/3s. I passed on the Samsung. Man that sensor is right there when the lens is off. Just thinking about when I take off the lens to put the camera in my pocket. Nice! Wonder when the review comes out?

Wow, A+ for style -- metal body, metal lens? The clean minimalist lines for some reason make me think of an Audi. Though the proportions seem quite weird.

But I don't see this being a huge seller. The question is who's going to buy it?

Is it: people looking to upgrade from their compact/cell phone cam, as Sony claims in their PR? Most of those people already jumped in by the time dSLR kits hit $500...that market is pretty saturated. Those people were also pretty happy with the bridgecams/superzooms, since they didn't really care about quality.

Is it: people looking for a high-end compact/pocketable shooter? Sony's late to market and m4/3 has already grabbed a bunch of this market. But there will still be some moderate sales numbers here.

Sony's biggest problem is two words: lens selection. m4/3 blows them out of the water and they have no chance of catching up with a proprietary mount. If a 24mm-e lens doesn't work for your style of shooting -- too bad, go buy a m4/3 (or use the invariably disappointing kit lens.)

Nope, this beautiful specimen will make a little splash, then be forgotten.

The MFT lenses suck

the primes are 34-40mm (none are wide angle)

the Wide angle zooms are expensive 700-1000$ and the 700$ auto-focus during video is a complete miss

There is ZERO MFT portrait prime lens
There is ZERO fast Zoom

Have you seen MFT lineup buddy? 2010/2011 = more FREAKING slow zooms lol they already has 5 zooms for god sake release something different

Also all of Sony lenses are optimized for video and silent unlike MFT with only 1 lens optimized for video and it costs 850$

And when you consider that Sony has announced a new video range for later this year using the E-mount and the same sensor.

They will be spreading their development costs and user feed back over several different families. It would seem that Sony is very serious about this.

Why are Sony cameras so ugly?
Best looking 4/3 camera so far.

Almost funny they want £150 for an A mount adaptor so my lenses won't AF and have stabilisation.

Glad Sony has a sense of humour still

I just checked Sonystyle, and IT IS an optical viewfinder !!! I do not know if this is good or bad news..... They have a picture of it .

The cameras are on preorder, I wonder when they will be shipping them....

So the ONLY difference between both cameras is the HD resolution and shape?
I thought that the Nex5 would have higher frames per second in burst mode....

I also see that the lowest iso is 200. I thought that this is a bad thing....

Finally I read that the pancake lens have no IS.

Since the camera does not have built in IS suppose low light pictures would be blury......

I hope that this cameras ship in the US before July......
