Weekly Macro/Close-up thread for 9 May 2010

Good stuff. That in-built camera flash comes in handy. Whenever I use my 100mm macro I always pop the flash up and attach a gary fong diffuser in front. Provides good fill flash light.
cheers,
peter

Tiny desert flowers, great time of year here in Nevada.
T2i, 60mm 2.8 macro
My comments:
The first is overexposed
The second has a busy background

I agree. The texture on it is just amazing! I never saw one in real life myself... Too bad. :(

i agree the first the yellow is a bit over exposued, but still a nice shot, however it would be hard to get a good exposure here due to the different colour, and the yellow is really reflecting light strongly.

The second the light is a bit off too, the light is coming from the top and the side casting undesirable shadows which i think dont add to the picture. There are good times to be photographing flowers, sometimes the light is just not right and is very difficult to get a nice shot, just like midday sun is very harsh.

Exellent feedback - thx - I must confess that that point had escaped me, but having looked back at the shot with your comment in mind I think you are dead right.

Really appreciate this, as I have very limited experience in macro work, but I find the examples people are posting here really inspiring.

I am also enjoying the fact that I am using old Olympus gear on the Canon for my macro work - I feel like I am cheating the system some how ;-)

I took these two shots a couple of weeks back, but only recently got around to resizing for online/DPReview gallery. The day I went out 'hunting' bugs, I could not believe I had such trouble finding them!!!

The spider was actually quite small no bigger than my little finger nail including its legs.

I was also very surprised that I got so close to the fly without it buzzing off - it must have been having an afternoon snooze or something.

Much appreciate your comments, thanks for taking the time to write.
