F717 macro tests, samples available

For those interested in macros, I have posted two galleries of photos taken with my brand-new-today F717:

1) Macro tests using a detailed subject on a copy stand, taken at various distances. I took two series; one with lens at widest and one with lens zoomed in about halfway.

Thanks for the post. What's your views on this? What do you think you'll be shooting at (distance and zoom level) for macros? I don't think I'd use the setting Phil used. I've never owned a Sony, so I'm not too sure.

You do realize the F7x7 can get much closer then 3" at full wide, right?

Well, now I do! My copy stand originally could only get as close as 3". After reading your message, I turned the camera-holding parallelogram gizmo upside down and got it closer.

I have posted two new full-wide images; one at 3/4" and one at 1". These aren't quite as good as the others since the lens could not get parallel to the bill (turning the gizmo upside down gave the camera a 5 degree angle). So you may see some uneven focus from top-to-bottom on the bill. Left-to-right should still be valid.

this is a general question, is the barrel distortion, esp. on DSC203 really really bad?
is that worse than the 707?
