Weekly Macro/Close-up thread for 9 May 2010

I got these over the last couple of weeks. The macro season is just starting to take off with the first of the dragonflies due in another week or two. Anyway, here's a few I took in my back garden - the weevil is my favourite.

Out in the desert again this weekend. Up at Joshua Tree primarily looking for lizards, but the wildflowers were still in bloom and good selection of bugs were on display therein. All with 5D2/MPE/MR14 unless otherwise noted.

Love the camoflage coloration on this grasshopper:

A less spectacular bug in the same type of yellow flower:

Mites in a desert daisy at 1:1 and 4:1 - the latter, sadly, a bit off in focus:

Unknown bug enjoying the pollen in one of the globe mallow flowers covering the hillsides:

Finally a couple of some large (> 1 inch long) beetles taken in natural light with a 180L:

and I don't want to know about what's coming out of their abdomens in the last shot...

Nice shots. I need to do some more macro.

Darkness is the monster and your shutter is your sword, aperture your shield and iso your armor. Strike fast with your sword and defend well with your shield and hope your armor holds up.

Took this with a Canon 1D MKIII, MP-E 65mm f2.8 @ f11, 1x, 1/300 sec, MT-24EX in the early afternoon sun light.
