Thank you Konstantin

LOL my kids are my inspiration and should they no longer be in the picture, I will have to go find more flowers and landscapes. :)
Sueanne, I always loved your work - and I'm quite sure there is no topic, where you would'n able to find a suitable photo of your lovely kids and that always will be a photo, pretending to be a winner !

Hi Konstantin,

yes, of course, local changes can improve overall impression. But there is a problem, changes made looking natural are far more demanding to knowledge of the image editing program and time consuming operations. I thought about getting rid of the other baton, but leaving the gradient of the gray background is pretty tough task for me, and it is in the direction of view of the girl thus it does not disturb my eyes as much ;-)

And second difference I can see is added contrast but it looks far away of natural lighting (& highlight on the face, hair and snood), it doesn't look pleasant to me, sorry.

But, I understand what you are saying and I do not qualify local changes as totally forbidden - I like some retouching threads here, but my effort usually doesn't produce result I'm comfortable with :-(
(May be gamma 0.93, contrast +2 could make the picture less flat...)

Have a nice day

Pavel
Pavel,

I think the fact that you participate in photo-challenge means that photography is for you a bit more then just pont-and-click. The fact that you "corrected exposure, saturation and cropped the photo" means that you want to make some improvements to your work. And local changes are very powerful tool to do this.

I allowed myself to play a bit with your already very good photo - just a few subtle local corrections, it took for me less then a minute - and I think the result looks a bit better, what do you think ?

Konstantin

Thanks Alfredo, me too.

Thank you for the primer on color Konstantin. That explanation was simple but good. It explains why my printer cartridges aren't red, blue and green, something I fleetingly thought about on occasion. ;-)

I like your recommendation concerning the fireplug. It's in front of my house and a bit drab at the moment. When the City repaints it I'll try again using your ideas. Thanks again ...

Thanks sueanne. I think you like tractors. I've always been partial to John Deere's myself, but I have small New Holland at the moment. We had a IH convention in town last summer so I got a lot of pics of old Farmall's. I learned to drive on a Farmall "B". Maybe I'll fit one into a contest one of these days.

The Irish tractor is a permanent fixture in the street outside a Pub called The Spinning Wheel. Its actually starting to sink into the blacktop. I have no idea what the contraption on the back is - other than heavy.
