For your pleasure, I hope :) here a link to my current portfolio of images all taken with the Panasonic L1 and the Leica 14-50mm f2.8-3.5 zoom lens. Of course most of you know this camera as the cousin of the Leica Digilux 3

Oh...and my latest photo which is not yet included in my portfolio.

trolling in this forum because im more than interested in buying a M8/M9 i came acoss your thread. seeing you mentioned "panasonic" with a leica lens (i find that amusing amongst these leica people)....i clicked your page.

i find your work very good actually better than good. i like the way you compose and your processing, the extra co;our saturation and the way you work the clouds.

i dont think too many people will respond to your thread, too bad, you got some great pics. cheers.

PS: goes to show you do not need the latest and the greatest.

GREAT pictures. Really! I even bookmarked your portfolio page!

I sold my Digilux 3 few months ago just to realize how much I loved and miss this camera. Because I could no find another one at a good price and condition, I bought the L1 instead.

Still testing it out, but it seems the results I am getting are pretty similar to what I use to get with my D3. No surprises here. Now I am using more Olympus glass (11-22mm, 50mm and 40-150mm) than Leica, but my all time favorite lens just arrived today the Pana-Leica Summilux 25mm f/1.4. I see a fun weekend ahead!

As other poster mentioned before, probably this thread won't be very popular in this forum, which is a pity. You should try posting it on the Panasonic or Oly instead.

Which lenses do you use with you L1? Do you have a customized setting to get better IQ on JPEGs or you shoot RAW?

Here are some pics taken with my Digilux 3:

I enjoyed your gallery very much, specially the lanscapes with those big beautiful skies. They are very similar to the views in my home county of Norfolk (not too far from Holland of course, as the crow flies). The L1 is a fine camera, I certainly wouldn't get rid of mine even if it is geriatric in modern camera terms.

I don't see why you shouldn't get a decent response to your thread, as several people post here with Panasonic/Leica lens cameras. But it's a smallish community and posts don't always attract the large responses of some other forums.

All the best
Mike

Thanks to all of you for looking and leaving such wonderful feedback. I really appreciate it very much. I am very happy that my images are so well received.

Nice one

Why is the L1 still around $1800 used with f/2.8-3.5 lens? I know the lens is the best yet for 4/3rds, Is the IQ of L1 sensor really that competitive with the current G1/G2 m4/3?

I picked up my L1 with the lens and the leather Panasonic bag plus UV B+W filter, Panasonic Polaroid filter, luxury leather neck strap, remote control, Extra battery for the price of Euro 750 brand new in the box from my local photographic store here in 2008. You can't find them anymore in any store or even in an online store. Sometimes I see one advertised 2nd hand on eBay or so and prices seem to vary. The price you mention was what it sold for when it first came out and even then it was considered way too high.

The lens is indeed top notch but i would not say it's the best one there is for 4/3rd's. There is also the bigger brother to this lens the Leica 14-150mm which is very expensive but even nicer then the 14-50mm. And of course there are some brilliant 4/rd's lenses in the Olympus Zuiko range like the 12-60mm which is weather sealed. The Leica 14-50mm like I have is not weather sealed.

Yes , I feel the sensor is definitely competitive. It's only 7.5 megapixels but has nice low pixel density. It is perfect up to iso 400 for no noise but above that noise starts to creep in. The sensor combined with the lens and the processing engine gives lovely sharp rendition. I believe Panasonic used a relatively weak AA filter in this camera. I love the analog style operation and the build quality of this cam. It's not a real Leica but it's probably the closest I will ever get to it. :) It's in fact almost 100% the same camera as the Leica Digilux 3
