*** Mini Challenge #261 - Three Colors ***

Excellent set Pavel. Well captured moments on all three entries. I love the DOF of the first picture and the bee makes a nice touch. A good well satured combination of green, red and yellow.

The last two are well done candid shots (especially I like the second one, would only wish to brigthen the Lady's face on the second and to crop out the part of man's body on the last), but I only see two colors - red & blue ...

Thank you, Konstantin, for your comment.

I do not like local changes, thus I only corrected exposure, saturation and cropped the photo. I've tried cutting right side in several positions, but this version I like the most. It looks like bigger problem to me, if the competitor's arm is cut or touching the side of the photo, thus I tolerate gray disturbing part...

I do not want to start another disputation about the colours, but in monochrome theme white and black are another colours beside sepia and other colour filters.

Thus there are 2, 3 or 4 colours depending of the point of view. So, my eyes see 4 colours red, blue, white, black. But I have no problem, if you consider the photos not meeting the topic...

Have a nice day.

The parameters have tightened in this challenge and photography being just one of many hobbies for me (in other words I wouldn't know a complementary color if it bit me in the ....), but I did manage to scrounge up these 3 I think fit the bill. If not - oh well.

Fireplug - G7, F4.5 1/640 0ev

Irish tractor - G7, F2.8 1/320 -.67ev

Rolling hills - G7, F2.8, 1/640 -.33ev

Pavel,

you are absolute right and I fully agree with you that it does not make sense to start any disputation about the colors. There are no answer if White and/or Black are colors or not.

As a host, I announced the challenge where white and black are not considered as colors. That mewans in this particular challenge these are out of topic but I fully appreciate and respect any your desicion - to repost these two pictures or to keep them stay.

Basically it is really not so important - we are here first of all to share our photo-passion and to have a nice and friendly communication.

Irrelevant of niumber of colors on your pictures - 2,3 or 4 - they are very good action shots. I like well captured expression of concentration on the girls face (#2) and the girls demonstrating totally different reaction (#3)

Thank you for sharing.

Regards,
Konstantin

I've just found your post in the middle of the first page specifying black/white as no valid colour...

But I usually find 3 dominant colours as too many, thus I can not find any great photo in my gallery if black and white are excluded, thus I only append poor examples... And I do not want to change my nominated pictures to worse ones ;-)

And two with 2 colours ;-)

I really like the last one.

Pavel,

I think the fact that you particiate in photo-challenge means that photography is for you a bit more then just pont-and-click. The fact that you "corrected exposure, saturation and cropped the photo" means that you want to make some improvements to your work. And local changes are very powerful tool to do this.

I allowed myself to play a bit with your already very good photo - just a few subtle local corrections, it took for me less then a minute - and I think the result looks a bit better, what do you think ?

Konstantin

Very nice set Coleen - three beautiful photographs with vivid colors. I think your second picture would win with a bit deeper DOF. The blurred bokeh would make the beautiful flower even more outstanding. The presence of the third color on the last picture is too subtle to fit the definition - three dominanty colors, but the picture is so excellent (and we all know how difficult is to shot through the window) that I just can not say that it is out of topic.

Konstantin

Randy, it is very easy - all colors in digital photography are made as a combination of three Primary colors Red, Green, Blue (RGB), Missing colors (digital value - 0,0,0) makes Black, all colors mixed together (255,255,255) - White. RGB is used in electronic world - where background (computer screen) is black, that means no signal (0,0,0) and you get a black pixel. For printing - Complimentary colors are used. These are CMY Cyan, Magenta and Yellow - a combination of two Complimentary colors makes a Primary color and vice versa. In opposite to Primary colors - all Complimentary colors mixed together (255,255,255) - make Black and missing colors (0,0,0) - makes White - what is the case by printing where paper’s background (no tint - 0,0,0 ) is White. Gray, in both cases, is an equal combination

of Primary/Complimentary colors f.e. (10,10,10) or (125,125,125) - the last is 50% Gray.

The fact that you don’t know what Complimentary colors are does not prevent you to post three very wonderful photographs.

The number 1 - super vivid colors and nice lighting - may be I would try to make a photo exact from the front of the fireplug, to make it absolute symmetrical, blur background and cut out the green stuff to make the fireplug more outstanding.
The irish tractor is a very interesting find.
The last one - no comment - par excellence !

Nice set Peta. May I ask where exactly did you shot this ? It seems to me the guys are not very busy - I'm really envy ...

Konstantin

Nick, unfortunatelly some of the shots is not on topic - as a Petty Tyrant Host I declared White/Black and all gradations of Gray as NON-colors for this particular challenge.
Shame on me ... but I'm strong - the two last days to enjoy the power.

Ah, your flower is so beautiful - I spend hours trying to find a third color but only see Red and Yellow ... May be you cheat a bit in Photoshop and cghange background to f.e. dark blue ?

Konstantin

A good example of the pciture where so simple subject can make so interesting picture. It is a eye of photographer to look around and find unusual in a usual environment surrounding us.
Konstantin

Gill,

I'm afraid - only the third photo is on topic but what a great picture! Good composition, exact DOF, nice colors - well done !

Konstantin

Sueanne, I always loved your work - and I'm quite sure there is no topic, where you would'n able to find a suitable photo of your lovely kids and that always will be a photo, pretending to be a winner !

Konstantin

Don - all your three pictures are a real delight for the eyes !

I love all three of them but the last one is my clear favourite ... Oh may be the second ? May be the first ... I really don't know ...
Konstantin

Thank you. The light was perfect that day.

These were taken on Ramsgate beach, south of Durban, South Africa. It was July - middle of their winter, but to us Brits, it was as warm as a home summer!

Nice set with the first one very colorful.
