I know that the new versions of many of the pic viewers can downsample in realtime, XP also does it. But I think it will be great if there are viewers that can apply USM (preferably with adjustable prameters) over the downsampled image in real time.
I keep 2 copies of all my images
1. originals
2. resampled + USM versions to view on moitor
If such a viewer existed I could keep just the originals.

Hi Rolin,

I don't know of any viewers that will do a USM at the same time as resampling for display in real time. I use IrfanView in full screen mode for showing my photos but I always downsize and adjust all my photos for display and then keep them on a separate CD. Some of them need more than just a USM before being shown such as cropping, colour balance, brightness etc. Also I can fit four or five times as many images on a CD when they are already resized. I would rather carry one CD around with me than four or five and I can leave the valuable originals safe at home too.
Good luck.

Andy.

What do you mean by USM? Doesn't ring a bell.

Couldn't you just use action in PS if you have it?

USM = Unsharp Mask (sharpening).

What Rolin wants do do is to display his pictures on-screen and apply a degree of sharpening to each one as it is opened and displayed. The purpose of which is so he can carry his CD around with the originals on and not have to carry a second CD with him containing pictures edited for display.

Exactly, Andy.
I couldn't explain it better :)

It's a shame that obviously such software doesn't exist.
The slower process (downsample) can be done by so many
software packages in realtime, why not do the unsharo mask
also, PS for example does it a lot faster that downsample, so
it shouldn't be a proble to apply it in realtime.

Cheers
Andy.
