I went down to the McKenzie River very late in the day and got there just in time to catch these shots. The first picture is a backwater of the river on an old channel, that still carries a small flow of water, when the river level is high enough.

Back in the early 1900s, the government installed an intake gate right at this spot, to feed a group of four small irrigation ditches, that served the farms on the delta area, between this river and the Willamette River. One of those ditches flowed through our farm and provided lots of clean water for our garden and for our ducks and geese. We had a dam on the ditch and I built a raft to pole up as far as the first road crossing. My friends and I had a lot of fun splashing around in it.

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.

The question Ernest always asks me is 'Would you hang that on your wall'?, the answer to all of these is definately yes, but my fav's are #1 & #2.

Wonderful spot that you are so lucky to live in...Do you know how lucky you are?

Cheers :-)

I appreciate your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed them. Yes, I do realize how lucky I am to be here. I've traveled to other places and even had planned to live and work in a few of them. But after awhile, I couldn't imagine living there and not here, so I came back very soon and stayed.

Steve, just got back from being overseas for a month and caught your post. Wonderful as always. I had the urge to dive in, but I bet the water temps are still pretty chilly this time of year.

Nice series Stephen...I'm just beginning to use my Sony HX! for photos...I've been using it strictly for the HD videos.

Thanks also to Jerry and PentPal. I agree that the HX1 would be very well worth its cost for use only as a video camera. If only it had a slower video zoom and you could set it to record into long, continuous video files, like a tape camcorder. This way, it would not necessarily start a separate file each time you stopped recording. In other words, a video pause feature.
