I went down to the McKenzie River very late in the day and got there just in time to catch these shots. The first picture is a backwater of the river on an old channel, that still carries a small flow of water, when the river level is high enough.
Back in the early 1900s, the government installed an intake gate right at this spot, to feed a group of four small irrigation ditches, that served the farms on the delta area, between this river and the Willamette River. One of those ditches flowed through our farm and provided lots of clean water for our garden and for our ducks and geese. We had a dam on the ditch and I built a raft to pole up as far as the first road crossing. My friends and I had a lot of fun splashing around in it.
