I'm new to this forum and pbase. I've quickly realized that pbase contains a gold mine. Its major weakness, from my point of view anyway, is its search function.

When I insert New Zealand it appears to search on both words. I couldn't tie them together at all with quotes or anything else.

Is there a better way to search? We are going to NZ and AU and I'd love to look at the related pictures on pbase. When I put in Australia I got what I assume is the limit - 500 - and they very nice to look at. We would love to look at a lot more than we know must be in the 3.9 million.

Thanks

Don

Well, I know this is a cop-out, but why not just search for "Zealand"? ;-)

Somehow I have a feeling that most of the pictures found will be of New Zealand rather than the "Old" Zealand (if there is one?)

But I agree, pbase is excellent! I especially love the fact that you can view at any size including original, and many people upload the true originals (which I prefer, having broadband and a large monitor).

Yes, that helps but you get capped at 500. We then start the search for other names but if they are more than one word or there are many of them, then you often get 500 with only a few of relevance - too much noise to search through. I guess my intended use was not why pbase was established. But it sure would be nice........ :-)

go to http://www.google.com

perform the following search:

site:pbase.com "new zealand"

works well. results will be a month or so out of date, but it's
fast and effective.
Learn something new every day I say. Works great. Never even considered that approach. Many thanks. Now we are going to soak up the hours looking at a lot of GREAT pictures of NZ and AU that will make us even more frustrated that we are only going for 67 days rather than six months. :-)

By the way, lately I've been very impressed with google since it has been listing search items that are only a few days old. Really surprised me.

Does pbase use Boolean logic for it's searches? If so, by place quotation marks around a phrase (e.g. "New Zealand"), you would force the search engine to looks for those words in exactly that order. Give it a try.

Try it this way (New + Zealand) or with [] brackets or just New + Zealand

I did (immediately), and it didn't. :-)
