I've been transferring data to my computer using firewire and the AC Adapter and noticing my CR123's going dead after the camera was on for an extended period of time. Started writing a message here to ask if anyone else had a problem and then started digging through the manual. The manual says to take them out of the camera when using the AC adapter since the camera will still use them. I love my S2 but for a $2400 camera this is really dumb! Does anyone know of any other expensive product that I have to pull the batteries out when I plug in an AC Adapter. Well that is what the manual says to do. Luckily only killed 3 sets of batteries before I read in detail (engineers don't read manuals ;-) )... Sorry for the petty gripe but Fuji would it have been that hard to do it right?

The CR123's will get drained when AC is used to power the camera. You must take out the the CR123 batteries when using the AC cord.

I find the S2's quirks endearing
I don't. See my thread on this:

I keep posting this as the more I think about the situation, the
more I find it hard to believe Fuji could have designed a camera
where it could happen.

In reading this and other forums, I received a lot of useful hints and suggestions regarding photography and the use of my S1. However, when it comes to the basic operation of the camera, I am amazed at the number of people who just don't read the manual...and then blame the manufacturer because the camera does exactly what the manufacturer says it will.

I’m pretty sure that the camera sucks up the Lithiums when AAs are running low. This I don’t find in the manual. I could be wrong, though. So, anybody want to put fresh Lithiums with almost depleted AAs? Just to prove me wrong?

Yea it is sort of dumb but at least it is stated in the manual and whining is not going to change this. Just take them out. I rarely use my AC adapter. Even in the studio I find that the AAs are holding up pretty good. Of course i do not use my preview mode for a long period of time and the camera shuts down in 5 minutes. Having a second clip for my batteries is a real joy. One clip out and one clip in. But if you want to safe those CR123s, use the AC adapter and take them out. That way you have power on location when you need it.
